City looked set to be rewarded when Nolito passed in from the six, but Sergio Aguero was adjudged to be offside.

It wasn’t long before City found another great chance, with Raheem Sterling’s stylish rip parried wide by Baggies star Ben Foster.

Then John Stones put a left-footed shot off the side of the net from very close.

The goal came in the 20th minute, as Ilkay Gundogan played Aguero through for a finish the Argentine rarely misses. 1-0.

His second goal was gorgeous, as the Argentine carried a bungled clearance across the top of the 18 before lashing a vicious rip into the corner.

West Brom had a moment or two in the second half, as James McClean’s mad dash down the left side saw his square pass deflected to Salomon Rondon. The Venezuelan couldn’t quite adjust his shot to get the ball on target.

Aguero returned Gundogan’s favor from the first goal, slipping him through with a clever left-footed flick that the German calmly passed by a splayed Foster.
