It’s not been dominant, and it’s not been pretty at times, but Brazil moved to two wins in two games at the 2015 Women’s World Cup on Saturday, thanks to a 1-0 victory over Spain at the Montreal Olympic Stadium.

The game’s only goal came just before halftime, in the 44th minute, when Andressa Alves got behind the Spanish defense, ran onto a through ball and poked a first-time effort underneath the goalkeeper, only for a Spanish defender to sprint back and clear the ball off the line. Alves continued on, though, and hit the rebound home from a tight angle.
In total, Brazil held a commanding advantage in terms of possession (58-42), while out-shooting the European upstarts (in the women’s game, at least), 13-7.

Brazil now find themselves sitting high atop Group E with six point from two games, and officially through to the Round of 16. Spain, meanwhile, have just one point from two games and will almost certainly need a victory over South Korea in the final group game in order to advance.
