Redskins signed Colorado QB Steven Montez.
A four-year starter for the Buffaloes, Montez (6'4/231) finished his college career with 43 school records — passing yards (9,710), passing touchdowns (63), three 400-yard passing games in a single-season, etc. — but failed to put much year-to-year improvement on film. He’s durable and tough, even playing through a broken rib in Colorado’s 2019 regular season finale, but his best plays are often improvised. His overall yards per attempt also progressively dipped (7.9 < 7.1 < 6.9) in each of the last three seasons. Still, his parents excelled in collegiate football (his father) and volleyball (mother) and it shows when he strides out of the pocket. Montez’s elite arm strength and natural talent will undoubtedly catch the eyes of scouts, but his stubborn development and instincts may be two red flags he can’t overcome at the next level.
