Ex-Steelers sixth-round pick Sutton Smith has converted from defensive lineman to fullback.
Checking in at 6-foot-0, 232 pounds, Smith is certainly built like a fullback. Now 25 years old, Smith has never appeared in a regular season game. The Saints actually employ a fullback, but Smith’s position switch is the longest of shots at this stage of his career.

Steelers sixth-round OLB Sutton Smith is also working out at fullback.
“I don’t think it should stunt anything at all,” Smith said. “If anything, it should improve my athletic ability. Honestly, work is work.” Although absurdly productive as a pass-rusher for Northern Illinois in the MAC, Smith is undersized at 6-foot-0, 233 pounds. That, of course, is ideal size for a lead blocker. Also likely to contribute on special teams, Smith’s 53-man roster odds are looking good.

Steelers selected Northern Illinois DE Sutton Smith with the No. 175 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.
Smith (6’0/233) piled up 29 sacks over his final two seasons at NIU, also leading all MAC edge defenders in QB pressures in 2018 (65) as charted by PFF College. Smith tested in the 34th-percentile athletically before the draft, however, and his profiles gives off Shea McClellin vibes as a questionable position fit. Just like McClellin, some NFL teams worked out Smith as an inside linebacker before the draft. Smith would do well to carve out a special teams and major sub-package role in the pros.
