Free agent RG T.J. Lang has retired after 10 seasons.
Lang spent most of his career in Green Bay before playing out the last two years with Detroit. He missed 10 games with a neck injury in 2018. The Lions released Lang in a cap-saving move earlier this offseason. Lang was a solid starter and is only 31, but health issues forced him into retirement.

Free agent RG T.J. Lang is uncertain if he wants to continue playing.
Lang, 32, has made it clear with his agent and with teams that he is considering retirement. “I think I’m proud of what I’ve done over the 10-year span. … Either way I go, I think I’ll be all right. I’ve had a good run.” After a productive 2017 season, Lang missed 10 games last season with a neck injury, which explains why he isn’t completely set on playing in 2019.

    Lions released RG T.J. Lang.
Lang was entering the final year of his deal, and both sides expected this move with Lang set to count over $11.5 million against the cap. The release saves the Lions over $8.8 million in cap space. Lang missed 13 games in two seasons with the Lions, including 10 last year with a neck issue. He remained a productive player in 2017 but turns 32 this season. He makes more sense for a team competing for a playoff spot rather than a rebuilding Detroit club.

Lions GM Bob Quinn wouldn’t commit to RG T.J. Lang (neck) returning in 2019.
“Everyone’s kind of different in terms of the evaluation process,” Quinn said at the Combine. “I would say T.J. is in that category of someone that we’re still kind of going through the process of thinking about what we want to do.” Lang missed 10 games with back/neck issues and a concussion last season. It’s a scary injury history, but Lang was one of the better guards in the league in 2017. Lang may need to take a pay cut to play out the final year of his deal in Detroit. The Lions can save $8.8 million from cutting him.

Lions placed RG T.J. Lang (neck) on injured reserve.
The Lions promoted CB Mike Ford from the practice squad in the corresponding roster move. It’s been an injury-plagued year for Lang, who has dealt with back and neck injuries as well as a concussion. Kenny Wiggins will play out the stretch at right guard for Detroit. Assuming the Lions bring him back in 2019, Lang will earn $8.25 million in the final year of his contract.

Lions RG T.J. Lang (neck) did not practice Friday.
Lang left last week’s debacle against the Vikings with a neck injury and has not practiced since. Kenny Wiggins should once again start in his place.

Lions RG T.J. Lang left Sunday’s Week 4 game against the Cowboys with a concussion and will not return.
He was helped off in the first quarter. It’s been a rough injury year for Lang, who has also been battling back issues. With Lang done for the afternoon, Kenny Wiggins will take over at right guard for Detroit.

Lions RG T.J. Lang (back) is questionable for Week 3 against the Patriots.
Lang sat out Week 2 because of a back injury. He was limited in practice all week, suggesting he will be able to play on Sunday night. Kenny Wiggins filled in at right guard last week.

Lions RG T.J. Lang (back) has been ruled out for Week 2 against the 49ers.
Lang did not practice at all this week, suggesting he could be dealing with a multi-week injury. Kenny Wiggins is expected to fill in at right guard.

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel considers LG T.J. Lang and G/C Evan Dietrich-Smith the Packers’ leading in-house candidates to replace C Scott Wells.
The most likely scenario is Lang moving to center with Dietrich-Smith taking over at left guard. Reserve/future signee Sampson Genus is a dark horse candidate. Wells, who signed with the Rams on Friday, had been the Packers’ starting center since 2005.
