Jerez was tagged for 27 runs (26 earned) on 31 hits with a 23/13 K/BB ratio across 20 2/3 innings (19 appearances, one start) with Triple-A Tacoma this season. The 29-year-old southpaw last appeared in the big leagues with the Giants and Pirates back in 2019.

Jerez, 29, made 12 appearances with the Pirates and Giants back in 2019. He owns a 5.33 ERA, 1.82 WHIP and 24/17 K/BB ratio across 25 1/3 innings (29 appearances) at the major-league level since 2018. He’ll serve as organizational relief depth for the Mariners.

Jerez was designated for assignment by Pittsburgh last week and drew no interest from other teams on the waiver wire. The 27-year-old southpaw holds an ugly 5.33 ERA in 25 1/3 career innings at the MLB level.

Jerez is now off the 40-man roster. He was claimed off waivers from the Giants in the middle of September, and he posted a 7.36 ERA over 3 2/3 innings accumulated over six appearances. The 27-year-old will be an organizational arm for someone in 2020; possibly the Pirates if he goes unclaimed.

Jerez hasn’t gained much traction in the majors to this point with a 4.98 ERA over 23 relief appearances across the last two seasons. However, he’s a lefty who throws hard, so it’s not a surprise he found another team willing to take a flier on him.

This move opens a 40-man roster spot for Johnny Cueto, who has been activated from the 60-day injured list and will make his season debut Tuesday night against the Pirates. Jerez spent the majority of the 2019 campaign at Triple-A Sacramento, where he posted a 3.86 ERA and 61/16 K/BB ratio in 56 innings.

That clears a roster spot for Thursday’s starting pitcher, Dereck Rodriguez. The left-hander has logged a serviceable 2.70 ERA over three big-league stints this season. Jerez should be back in the fold at some point.

Jerez holds an ugly 5.50 ERA and 1.72 WHIP in 18 career innings at the major league level. The 27-year-old southpaw will operate in a low-leverage relief role for San Francisco.

The 27-year-old hurler was with the big league club for just one day this time around, allowing one run on two hits in two innings of work against the Mets on Thursday. He should get another chance with the Giants in relatively short order.

Andrew Suarez was demoted in the corresponding roster move. Jerez has only appeared in one game at the big-league level this season, hurling a scoreless inning against the Rockies on May 7. Look for the Giants to employ him as a middle reliever/lefty specialist.
