Sellers, selected by the Valkyries with the 17th overall pick in last month’s draft, was waived by Golden State on May 3. Atlanta claimed her off waivers a few days later, giving the former Maryland standout another opportunity to earn a roster spot. Unfortunately for Sellers, she only played 10 minutes in her lone preseason appearance for Atlanta, a loss to the Fever on May 10.
  • Two days after being waived by the Valkyries, Sellers has a new home. The 17th overall pick in last month’s draft, Sellers’ versatility was one of her hallmarks during her college career at Maryland. The move to Atlanta gives her another opportunity to earn a roster spot. It’s unknown if Sellers will be available for Wednesday’s exhibition against the Mystics.
  • With only 12 available roster spots, making a WNBA Opening Day roster is incredibly difficult, even for draft picks. Sellers, the 17th overall pick in last month’s draft, is the latest example. The versatile guard was waived on Saturday and will be a free agent once she clears waivers. Sellers is the only player in Maryland program history to tally at least 1,500 points, 500 rebounds and 500 assists in a career.
  • The 6-foot-2 guard Sellers did many things well for the Terrapins throughout her four-year career, mainly scoring, assisting, and being a thief on the defensive end. Sellers even cracked 40 percent on her three-point attempts this past season for the first time in her career — a potentially significant development if she can sustain her efficiency as a pro. Either way, she knows how to produce offensively, and it wouldn’t be shocking for her to continue doing so in the WNBA. Sellers averaged 14.4 points, 3.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game as a senior and is the first player in Maryland women’s basketball history to accumulate 1,500 points, 500 rebounds and 500 assists for a career. She joins the Valkyries as the team’s second-ever draft pick.
