Mejia

Mejia signed a minor league contract with the White Sox in January and had been working out at the team’s alternate training site. The 26-year-old lefty holds a career 4.62 ERA at the MLB level.

Mejia requested his release from the Angels earlier this month after being designated for assignment. The 26-year-old left-hander struggled to a 6.61 ERA and 1.72 WHIP in 31 1/3 innings last season between Minnesota, St. Louis, and Anaheim, and he’ll probably be nothing more than a depth piece for Chicago in 2020.

The 26-year-old southpaw requested his unconditional release from the club and the Angels obliged. Mejia posted a 6.61 ERA and 1.72 WHIP across 31 1/3 innings between the Angels, Twins and Cardinals in 2019.

Mejia gets the boot to open up a roster spot for catcher Jason Castro, whose one-year, $6.85 million free agent agreement with the Angels was made official on Tuesday. Mejia, 26, struggled to a 6.61 ERA and 1.72 WHIP in 31 1/3 innings of work last season between Minnesota, St. Louis, and Anaheim.

Mejia was removed from the 40-man roster a couple weeks ago but is now back on it. He will give the Angels another southpaw in the bullpen.

Mejia was designated for assignment by the Angels on Tuesday and passed through waivers unclaimed. The 26-year-old southpaw owns an 8.06 ERA in 25 2/3 total innings this season at the major league level.

Mejia was claimed off waivers from the Cardinals earlier this month, but now he could be on the move again. The southpaw allowed six runs (five earned) in 7 1/3 innings during his time with the Angels.

He needed a couple days to tend to a personal matter. To make room for him on the 40-man roster, the Halos sent J.C. Ramirez outright to Triple-A Salt Lake. Now in his second stint with Los Angeles, Mejia carries a dreadful 8.22 ERA over 23 major-league innings this season.

Mejia is off to attend to a personal matter, per Angels manager Brad Ausmus, and it’s not known when he will return. The 26-year-old left-hander has allowed three earned runs in 4 2/3 innings of relief with the Angels since they claimed him off waivers from the Cardinals on August 8.

Mejia just got cut from the Angels’ 40-man roster on July 26 and is now back in the fold after allowing three earned runs in three innings of relief with St. Louis. He has a 7.54 ERA between three different teams this year.
