Cowboys signed seventh-round SS Ahmad Dixon to a four-year contract.
A first-team All-American as a senior, Dixon played a linebacker/safety hybrid role at Baylor and could push for snaps in sub-packages. The Cowboys have just J.J. Wilcox and Matt Johnson competing for the starting job opposite Barry Church.

Cowboys selected Baylor S Ahmad Dixon with the No. 248 overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft.
Dixon (6-foot, 212) made 38 starts for the Bears, earning first-team All-American accolades as a senior and finishing his career with four interceptions. He primarily played a linebacker-safety hybrid position, attacking downhill with aggressiveness versus the run. Although Dixon lacks elite athleticism (4.64 forty, 32-inch vertical), he’s likely to be an asset on special teams and eventually in sub-packages. There is an outside chance Dixon could grow into an every-down strong safety.

    Cowboys waived SS Ahmad Dixon.
Dixon, a seventh-round rookie out of Baylor, loses his roster spot to C.J. Spillman.
