Raiders signed DB Akwasi Owusu-Ansah, TE Mickey Shuler, OG Jason Foster, LB Jerrell Harris, WR Tray Session and OL Jason Slowey to reserve/future contracts.
A 2010 fourth-round pick, Owusu-Ansah has played nearly as many positions as he has NFL games, but will be a defensive back for the Raiders. He’ll be a special teamer if he makes the team out of camp, however. A former Dolphin and Viking, Shuler hasn’t appeared in a game since 2010.
  • FA Defensive Back #47
Cowboys claimed S Akwasi Owusu-Ansah and P Jake Rogers off waivers.
The Eagles also put a claim in on Owusu-Ansah, who was originally drafted by Dallas in the fourth round two years ago. Held back early in his career by a pre-draft labrum tear, he’s been primarily a special teamer in the NFL. Rogers is a camp leg behind Chris Jones.
  • FA Wide Receiver
Dez Bryant has ceded punt-return duties to S Akwasi Owusu-Ansah.
The Cowboys can’t afford to risk an injury to the physical Bryant with Miles Austin (hamstring) already on the shelf. Outside of return-yardage leagues, it’s great news for Bryant’s stability. Owusu-Ansah managed just four yards on two punt returns against the Bills.
  • FA Defensive Back #47
Cowboys promoted WR/DB Akwasi Owusu-Ansah from the practice squad.
If he’s active Sunday, he’ll play on special teams. Active for seven games a season ago, Owusu-Ansah returned 25 kicks, averaging a mediocre 21.7 yards.
  • FA Defensive Back #47
    Cowboys waived WR/KR Akwasi Owusu-Ansah.
Owusu-Ansah’s roster spot was needed for fullback help with Tony Fiammetta (illness) sidelined. This means Dez Bryant will be back returning punts.
  • FA Wide Receiver
The Dallas Morning News reports Dez Bryant is likely to resume returning punts for the Cowboys.
Current return man Akwasi Owusu-Ansah is expected to be waived Wednesday, necessitating Bryant’s return to a role owner Jerry Jones is on the record as not wanting him to fill. Bryant got off to a slow start this season after injuring his quad on a Week 1 return, and broke his leg returning a kick last season. The move won’t affect his fantasy value barring injury.
  • FA Defensive Back #47
    Jaguars signed S Akwasi Owusu-Ansah.
A fourth-round pick by the Cowboys in 2010, Owusu-Ansah has been primarily a special teamer in between injuries in 10 career games. He’ll add depth following Dwight Lowery’s shoulder injury Monday night.
  • FA Defensive Back #47
Free agent DB Akwasi Owusu-Ansah worked out for the Steelers.
Owusu-Ansah was waived by the Cowboys at final cuts after attempting to make the transition from safety to corner during camp. The onetime receiver has made 14 career appearances since being drafted in the 2010 fourth round.
  • FA Defensive Back #47
Cowboys waived or released DB Akwasi Owusu-Ansah, DE Clifton Geathers, DT Ben Bass, OT Pat McQuistan, G Daniel Loper, C Harland Gunn, TE Andrew Szczerba, WR Saalim Hakim, LB Baraka Atkins and DB Lionel Smith.
Owusu-Ansah, a fourth-round pick in 2010, has bounced around the league as a special teamer. McQuistan, Atkins, and Loper have all fast become journeymen.
  • FA Defensive Back #47
Cowboys S Akwasi Owusu-Ansah has been moved to cornerback.
Also a former receiver, Owusu-Ansah played corner in college, but was drafted by Dallas as a safety in 2010. Whatever his position in listed as, Owusu-Ansah shouldn’t contribute outside of special teams if he cracks the 53-man roster.
