Cordoba

Córdoba, who last appeared in the majors back in 2017 with the Padres as a Rule 5 selection, was a late arrival to Reds’ spring training due to travel issues. The 26-year-old was cut loose back in late June and has since signed with a Mexican League team.

Córdoba was a late arrival to Reds’ camp due to travel issues and won’t have enough time to compete for a spot on the major-league roster. The versatile 26-year-old inked a minor league pact with an invite to spring training back in December. He’ll open the 2022 season as extra position player depth at Triple-A Louisville.

Córdoba stuck on the Padres’ roster as a Rule 5 selection back in 2017 but never ended up advancing past Double-A over the next four years. The versatile 25-year-old is an interesting lottery ticket for the Reds, but unlikely to contribute at the major-league level next season.

Cordoba was designated for assignment last week, but he managed to pass through waivers unclaimed. The 22-year-old appeared in just 45 games in the minors this season, first suffering a concussion in a car accident prior to spring training and ultimately being shut down in August due to thumb surgery. He’ll hope for better luck on the health front in 2019.

Cordoba made his MLB debut in 2017 at age 21, but he batted just .208/.282/.297 in 100 games that year and a concussion suffered in an offseason car accident tanked his 2018. He will probably draw interest on the waiver wire.

Cordoba, a 21-year-old shortstop, batted .362/.427/.495 in 220 plate appearances this past season with rookie-level Johnson City, though that shiny slash line came with zero home runs. He did steal 22 bases in 50 games. San Diego may have a tough time carrying Cordoba on its active roster throughout the 2017 campaign.

Cordoba has been a nice surprise for the Padres this season and has taken over as the club’s primary left fielder in recent weeks, though Cory Spangenberg will get the start there Wednesday. Cordoba, a 21-year-old Rule 5 Draft pick from the Cardinals, is batting .292/.333/.417 over his first 41 major league games. He hadn’t played at a level above rookie ball before this spring.

Margot is out of the lineup for a second straight game due to a sore right calf and he’s likely to officially be placed on the DL this weekend. It’s unclear at this point how much time he might miss. Allen Cordoba is in center field Friday.

Cordoba is getting a shot at the top of the lineup while Manuel Margot (calf) is on the shelf. He has handled himself well since his uptick in playing time, collecting two or more hits in five of his past 10 outings. While he might not have a ton of staying power outside of deeper NL seasonal leagues, he is a player to consider as a low-priced target in DFS.
