Notably absent is Drew Henson, but the Yankees feel like playing Latin American winter ball would be better for Henson, who has already been to the AFL twice.

Phillips, who was recalled on July 19, went 1-for-4 with a walk in his latest stint in the majors.

Phillips is 7-for-12 with six RBI over the three games. While he’s not an option in the outfield, he’s another preferable choice to Terrence Long ever receiving starts. He might be worth using in AL-only leagues until the Yankees get healthier.

Perhaps because of Tino Martinez’s injuries, the Yankees had a change of heart and decided to promote Phillips now. He probably won’t get more than a couple of starts, but he can act as a pinch-hitter against left-handers and a defensive replacement for Jason Giambi.
