Ariel Miranda kept the dam from bursting in Thursday’s no-decision against the Red Sox, allowing two runs on eight hits over six innings.
Miranda was a little generous with the hits, but it was otherwise a fine starting debut at the big league level -- particularly given the offense he was facing. Travis Shaw crunched a solo home run off the 27-year-old in the second inning and Mookie Betts picked up an RBI double in the fifth. Otherwise, the Red Sox were unable to cash in on their opportunities during Miranda’s watch. It remains to be seen how the Mariners might utilize him moving forward, but if nothing else, he pitched well enough on Thursday to give the M’s something to think about. He held a 3.93 ERA and 87/31 K/BB ratio over 100 2/3 frames with the Orioles’ Triple-A affiliate prior to being traded over to the West Coast for Wade Miley on July 31.
