Speaking Tuesday, Baylor coach Art Briles said he hasn’t been contacted by the Redskins about their head-coaching vacancy.
Briles did admit to curiosity about testing his extreme-spread offense at the NFL level. “If we’re just being honest, which I like to be, the thing that would interest me would be our style of play at that level,” Briles said. “That’s the only thing that would attract anybody I think in a position that I’m in, would be the style of play.” Briles was adamant that he’s not considering leaving Baylor, however. “That would be the only thing that would spark my interest a little bit on that end. But it’s not something I would pursue.” It appears impetuous Redskins owner Daniel Snyder is going to have to lavish his millions on someone else.

ESPN’s John Clayton places Baylor’s Art Briles atop a list of “main candidates” for the Redskins’ head-coaching vacancy.
This won’t be the last we hear of Briles as a Redskins candidate. He coached Robert Griffin III at Baylor, and is making just $4 million a year in college. Clayton suggests Skins owner Dan Snyder “could double that annual number.” Clayton also considers Texas A&M’s Kevin Sumlin, Stanford’s David Shaw, and Notre Dame’s Brian Kelly potentially primary candidates for Washington.

Baylor coach Art Briles plans to stay at the university.
A ten-point loss by the sixth-ranked Bears to No. 15 Central Florida in the Fiesta Bowl probably sapped what interest the NFL had in Briles. Baylor was favored by three scores. He was loosely connected to the Redskins’ head-coaching vacancy. There were also reports the Texas Longhorns were interested in Briles.
