Buccaneers CB C.J. Wilson suffered a “severe” hand injury in a fireworks accident on the 4th of July.
This is the second fireworks-related mishap we’ve seen in the last week after Giants DE Jason Pierre-Paul suffered a similar injury in Florida over the weekend. Unlike JPP, Wilson is a fringe player who needed a strong training camp to make the roster. The undrafted 25-year-old only appeared in one game last season, logging 27 snaps in Tampa Bay’s Week 17 loss to New Orleans.

Bucs CB C.J. Wilson ended up losing two fingers in his Fourth of July fireworks accident.
He was released from the hospital on Friday and is said to be in “good spirits” after losing his index and middle fingers on one of his hands. It’s unclear what it means for Wilson’s football career. He was already facing long odds of making the roster as a second-year UDFA. Wilson’s $585K salary isn’t guaranteed.

Bucs CB C.J. Wilson is walking away from football after a Fourth of July fireworks accident cost him two fingers.
Wilson is otherwise in good health, but losing two fingers probably ends Wilson’s career. Previously, he was a borderline-roster player, appearing in four games the past two years with Tampa Bay and Chicago. Wilson is 25 years old.
