Frias

Frias was called up from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Sunday and threw a bullpen session on Monday. Things could change if he’s needed in relief early this week, but it appears that the Dodgers are lining him up for the assignment. He has limited fantasy appeal.

That would have been Nick Tepesch’s turn in the rotation but he was designated for assignment following a disastrous outing Friday against Pittsburgh. Roberts said rehabbing left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu (shoulder) is not a candidate to start Wednesday’s game. Frias was with the Dodgers last week but didn’t make an appearance. Wednesday could be a bullpen game for the Dodgers if they opt to keep Frias in Triple-A.

The Dodgers needed an extra bullpen arm after Wednesday’s 14-inning marathon against Baltimore. Luis Avilan was optioned to Oklahoma City in the corresponding move. Frias has not pitched for the Dodgers yet in 2016, though he was up with the big club for two days last month.

Avilan pitched two scoreless innings during his brief stint in the major leagues. The Dodgers are swapping him out for right-hander Carlos Frias. Avilan will continue to rack up frequent flyer miles traveling between Oklahoma City and Chavez Ravine.

Frias worked several innings of relief on Thursday and was going to be unavailable for a couple of days, so he’s sent out to add an extra bench bat. He’ll rejoin the Dodgers at some point in the second half.

Frias has put up a 4.60 ERA over 31 1/3 innings between Double- and Triple-A this season. He’s an option to take Mike Bolsinger’s rotation spot but could also be used in long relief.

Frias was only up in the majors for two days and did not make an appearance out of the Los Angeles bullpen. The right-hander has an uninspiring 4.60 ERA in 31 1/3 innings this season between Double-A and Triple-A.

Frias had been on the disabled list at Triple-A and isn’t expected to pitch the rest of the season. This was done merely as a procedural move to create a spot on the roster for Clayton Kershaw who was activated on Friday.

Frias was put on the 60-day disabled list in September as a procedural move after he went down with a right oblique impingement. The 26-year-old made one appearance in the majors this season and posted a 3.95 ERA and 32/11 K/BB ratio over 43 1/3 innings between Double- and Triple-A.
