Dolphins selected Auburn FB Chandler Cox with the No. 233 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.
Used primarily as a blocker, Cox (6'1"/236) totaled 255 yards from scrimmage (237 receiving, 18 rushing) on 44 touches over his four-year stay at Auburn. Cox plays with intensity but due to his middling athleticism (4.79 forty), he’ll probably have to make his mark on special teams.
  • ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. ranked Auburn junior FB Chandler Cox as the No. 3 underclassman draft prospect at his position.
Scout.com ranked Cox as the No. 1 fullback recruit for the 2015 cycle. He wasted little time working himself into the fold with the Tigers and started 10 games as a true freshman. 20 of the 25 games in which the 6-foot-1, 239-pounder has seen the field with Auburn have been as a starter. As tends to be the case with most fullbacks, he has recorded limited offensive output during his collegiate career.
  • Auburn TE coach Larry Porter said that junior FB Chandler Cox is “a huge part of what we’re doing.”
“He’s one of our team leaders, he’s played a lot. I think he’s a very, very important part of our offense,” Porter said. Cox (6'1/239) has made 20 starts during his time with the Tigers. ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. ranked him as the No. 3 underclassman fullback prospect for this spring’s draft back in May. Chandler describes him as "[a] guy that can flex and play attached and play in the backfield.”
  • Auburn senior H-back Chandler Cox was spotted taking handoffs at running back during Friday’s practice.
“Right now, he’s a veteran guy, and in certain situations he could be very valuable at that position (of running back) as we’re filtering through these young guys until some of them really step up,” said Tigers HC Gus Malzahn. Cox (6'1/239) has seen a hearty 30 starts at H-back over the course of his career in the program. While he’s taken just eight carries over the last three years, the team tested him out at running back during the summer of 2016, too, and Malzahn seemed unconcerned about any possible difficulty handling a position different than his primary one. Auburn is looking for a starter to emerge from the group of Kam Martin, Malik Willis, JaTarvious Whitlow and Asa Martin. Martin (Kam) came away from the spring atop the team’s depth chart and figures to receive the first starting shot this season barring ineffectiveness or injury in camp.
