Cuthbert

Cuthbert, who didn’t play professionally last season, made his last appearance in the majors during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season when he got into exactly one contest for the White Sox. The 30-year-old infielder took Mets ace Max Scherzer deep for a solo homer in the second inning and also stole a base later in the contest.

He’ll report to Triple-A Syracuse. Cuthbert was released by the Reds after he hit just .203/.330/.338 with two homers for Louisville. He provides some versatility and organizational depth for the Mets for the remainder of 2021.

Cuthbert as slashing .203/.330/.338 with two homers over 21 games with the Reds’ Triple-A affiliate. The 28-year-old had a decent rookie season with the Royals in 2016, but he’s struggled to build on that and will likely just be upper-level depth wherever he winds up next.

Cuthbert saw just one plate appearance for the White Sox this past season before being designated for assignment in August. The 28-year-old holds a .250/.300/.378 batting line in the majors and will function as upper-level depth going into 2021.

Cuthbert only made one plate appearance during his short stay with Chicago. The 27-year-old corner infielder is a career .250/.300/.378 hitter in 1,161 total plate appearances at the MLB level.

Cuthbert had been outrighted off the roster in late July but a thumb injury to Leury Garcia has opened the door for the 27-year-old to get another shot with the club. Cuthbert hit .246/.294/.379 in 87 games with the Royals last season and can play all over the diamond in a reserve role for the Sox.

Cuthbert was designated for assignment by Chicago earlier this week and passed through waivers unclaimed. He’ll remain with the White Sox as organizational infield depth.

Cuthbert was signed to a minor league contract by the White Sox and had his contract purchased just before the start of the delayed campaign. His place on the roster is being taken by Ryan Goins.

Cuthbert played well during spring training and summer camp to earn a roster nod. He doesn’t figure to play much, though.

Cuthbert hammered a solo shot to left field off Padres’ ace Chris Paddack in the second inning and tagged him for another round-tripper -- a two-run blast to left field -- in the ensuing frame. The 27-year-old journeyman infielder is attempting to win a spot on the White Sox’ Opening Day roster as a reserve infielder. He’s a long-shot for sure, but he’s gotten off to an excellent start, hitting .360 (9-for-25) with three homers in 12 games this spring.
