Chris Archer, who didn’t pitch in 2023, said he has taken a job as a special assistant in baseball operations with the Dodgers.
Consider that a retirement announcement. Archer last pitched with the Twins in 2022, going 2-8 with a 4.56 ERA in 25 starts. The two-time All-Star had his best season in 2015, finishing with a 3.23 ERA and 252 strikeouts for the Rays. It was one of three straight years in which he struck out 230 batters. He concludes his career 63-89 with a 3.93 ERA.

Twins declined RHP Chris Archer’s $10 million club option for the 2023 season, making him a free agent.
The Twins took a chance on Archer last year as a low-cost reclamation project, but the decision didn’t pan out. The 34-year-old veteran right-hander finished with an underwhelming 4.56 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 84/48 K/BB ratio across 102 2/3 innings (25 starts). He’s unlikely to make an impact for fantasy managers at this advanced stage of his career.

According to Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic, the Twins are expected to decline club options on Miguel Sanó, Dylan Bundy and Chris Archer.
The trio are expected to hit free agency later this week once those decisions are finalized. Gleeman adds that Carlos Correa is also expected this upcoming week to exercise the opt-out clause in his contract with the Twins. None of these decisions come as a surprise, but it sounds like they’re on track to happen shortly.

Twins placed RHP Chris Archer on the 15-day injured list with right pectoral tightness.
Archer will hit the injured list after he was pulled from Saturday’s contest with right pectoral tightness. The 33-year-old right-hander is confident he’ll only miss the minimum time and return before the end of the season.

Chris Archer left Saturday’s game against the Guardians with right pectoral tightness.
Archer allowed a two-run homer to Amed Rosario in the first inning but that was the only damage allowed by the 33-year-old before being lifted after the second inning with right pectoral tightness. He should be considered day-to-day and the team should provide a timeline soon.

Archer surrendered just four hits as a first-inning Josh Donaldson RBI single and a third-inning Martin Gonzalez solo homer represented the only damage against him. The 33-year-old veteran right-hander will carry an inflated 4.47 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 83/47 K/BB ratio across 100 2/3 innings (24 starts) into a home outing on Saturday against the Guardians.

Chris Archer wasn’t sharp in a no-decision against the Red Sox on Tuesday night, giving up four runs on five hits over 4 1/3 innings.
The 33-year-old hurler walked two and struck out three on the night. He kept the Red Sox offense at bay through the first three innings until Rafael Devers delivered a sacrifice fly in the fourth. They then put together three straight one-out singles in the fifth to push a run across and chase Archer -- and two additional runs scored after he turned the ball over to the bullpen. On the season, the right-hander holds a 4.52 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 81/45 K/BB ratio over 95 2/3 uninspiring innings. He’ll take on the Yankees in New York his next time out on Monday afternoon.
