The season’s first practices have already taken their toll on Pepperdine, as Marty Wilson’s best player is out with a broken hand.

Stacy Davis, a 6-foot-6 forward that was named first-team all-WCC as a sophomore, fractured a bone in his right hand last week. He will be reevaluated in two weeks, according to a release from the school, but he isn’t expected to miss any time. Pepperdine opens their season against Fresno State on November 14th.

“Stacy won’t miss a whole lot because he’s already got a good feel for what we’re doing,” Wilson said. “He’s got to stay in shape so he’ll be with strength coach Matt Young doing a lot of bike and a lot of cardio. We’ll keep him engaged with what we’re doing on the court and put him in as many drills as we can. It’ll also give him a chance to work on his left hand. He’s got a great right hand, and he needs to balance it with his left.”

Davis averaged 15.1 points and 7.6 boards last season. He’s the most important piece for a team that is looking to compete in a top-heavy WCC.
