Rams selected Oklahoma T Bobby Evans with the No. 97 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.
The Rams traded pick Nos. 101 and 133 for pick Nos. 97 and 162. Evans (6’4/312) turned pro as a redshirt junior after making 40 starts for the Sooners, manning right tackle as a freshman and sophomore before earning second-team All-Big 12 as Kyle Murray’s blind-side protector in 2018. A limited athlete who won with length (34 ¾" arms) and power on tape, Evans is likely to move back to right tackle or even guard in the pros. If Evans finds a consistent position fit, he offers quality-starter upside based on dominant flashes from his college film. This is likely a depth add for the Rams offensive line that is going through some changes.
  • An anonymous AFC area scout noted Oklahoma T Bobby Evans “has some limitations and you have to help him.”
The scout also mentioned that Evans'(6'4/312) 2018 season was disappointing when compared with his 2017 tape. NFL Media’s Lance Zierlein compared Evans to Panther OT Darryl Williams and believes he has a good chance to become a starter in the NFL. Both Zierlein and the anonymous scout note that Evans needs to be at right tackle rather than a move inside. With multiple NFL teams showing interest in Evans, including the Panthers, Giants, Jets, he’ll likely be a Day 2 selection.
  • Draft Analyst’s Tony Pauline passes along that the New York Giants, New York Jets and Carolina Panthers are showing “a lot of interest” in Oklahoma T Bobby Evans.
“Teams love the versatility Evans brings and believe he can line up at any position on the offensive line but center,” Pauline writes, adding that he was “blown away by the progress Evans showed in 2018.” The analyst is of the steadfast belief that the 6-foot-4, 312-pounder has a future at left tackle in the NFL. Draft Analyst currently hits Evans up with a Round 2 grade.
  • Oklahoma redshirt junior T Bobby Evans declared for the NFL Draft.
Evans (6'5/301) is considered one of the top tackles in the draft, and the fact he’s played both left and right tackle for the Sooners is sure to help his stock. He made the switch from the right side after Orlando Brown left for the NFL, and he handled the switch admirably. Mel Kiper Jr. grades Evans as the seventh best tackle in this class, and at this point, he’s likely a Day 2 pick. That could improve considerably if he tests well at the combine and his pro day.
  • ESPN’s Mitch Sherman named Oklahoma Ts redshirt junior Orlando Brown and redshirt sophomore Bobby Evans the best offensive tackle duo in college football.
Last year, Oklahoma ranked No. 1 nationally in QBR, No. 2 in yards per game, No. 3 in yards per pass attempt and No. 4 in third-down conversion rate. Brown is a potential Rd. 1 pick in the spring. Evans, meanwhile, is the son of former OU basketball player Bobby Joe Evans. The 6-foot-4, 316-pounder started the last 12 games last year. “Individually, they’re both really good players,” new OU coach Lincoln Riley said. “Orlando has gone from becoming a really good player to a dominant player. He’s got one of the most elite mentalities of any player that I’ve coached. He’s a dream offensive lineman with his competitiveness and his nasty streak, his attitude and the chip on his shoulder.”
  • Sam Khan Jr. of ESPN reports that redshirt junior Bobby Evans is likely to replace Orlando Brown at left tackle last year.
Evans started all 14 games at right tackle last year, and has 26 starts under his belt in his time at Oklahoma. Brown was one of the best offensive lineman in the country last year, and is very likely to be a first-round pick this April, so it won’t be easy to replace his production. Evans has shown flashes of brilliance as a Sooner, however, so it may not be as big of drop off as other schools would experience when losing an Outland Trophy finalist.
  • ESPN’s Greg McElroy ranks Oklahoma redshirt junior OT Bobby Evans as the top offensive tackle in college football.
Evans (6'5/301) is making the switch from right to left tackle after LT Orlando Brown left for the NFL. Already with 26 starts under his belt -- he started all 14 games last year -- Evans will use his experience to help make the transition to protecting his quarterback’s blind side. The rest of McElroy’s OT list include’s Trey Smith (Tennessee), Jonah Williams (Alabama), David Edwards (Wisconsin), and Greg Little (Ole Miss). Evans teammate Ben Powers appeared on McElroy’s offensive guard rankings at No. 2.
