For those members of Hurricane Nation unhappy with the performance of Kirby Hocutt as Miami’s athletic director -- and based on the emails we received during the search for a new football coach there are many -- today may be your lucky day.
According to multiple reports, Hocutt has interviewed for the same position at Texas Tech recently. The Red Raiders have apparently targeted Hocutt as a replacement for Gerald Myers, with one UM source telling the Palm Beach Post that “Texas Tech is beating down his door.”
Chris Level of RedRaiderSports.com and ESPN radio in Lubbock went so far as to tweet earlier Thursday that Hocutt will be Tech’s next AD “pending board of regents approval today or tomorrow. The search is over.”
Hocutt has been at Miami for the past three years, but prior to that had spent a good chunk of his adult life in Big 12 country. He was a linebacker at Kansas State, and also spent six years as an administrator at Oklahoma.
Myers, the current Tech AD, announced his retirement Aug. 26 of last year, effective May 31 of this year.
