While the wait to hear his name called during the NFL Draft took longer than he expected, it only took two games for Jimmy Clausen to become a starting quarterback in the NFL.
After a woeful performance against Tampa Bay, Carolina Panthers head coach John Fox announced he’s starting the rookie from Notre Dame next Sunday against Cincinnati in place of Matt Moore.
“We’ve just not been getting it done,” Fox said. “Jimmy is a guy we think highly of. I thought he made the most of his opportunities Sunday. We’ll see how it goes this week.”
Clausen didn’t earn the job as much as incumbent Moore gave it away, committing multiple turnovers in starts against the Giants and the Buccaneers. Moore completed just 41 percent of his throws and has a passer rating of 41.8.
Clausen takes the reins of a Panthers team that’s trying not to start its second consecutive season 0-3.
