Sadly, the college football world -- and the NFL -- has lost one of its long-time coaches.
Former Oregon State head coach Joe Avezzano has passed away at the age of 68 from an apparent heart attack while in Italy. An Italian website covering the NFL first reported the news; the Cowboys, for which Avezzano was the special teams coach for over a decade, later confirmed his passing.
Here’s PFT’s report on the news for those who are interested.
Avezzano’s college resume included five years as the head coach of Oregon State (1980-84), where he won just six games, as well as assistant stints at Pitt, Iowa State, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Florida State, his alma mater.
Obviously, our deepest condolences and thoughts go out to Avezzano’s friends and family.
