I’m not sure what took this one so long to come to light, but apparently starting defensive end Adrian Clayborn of the Iowa Hawkeyes got into some trouble in late January, assaulting a cab driver around 2 AM in late January. And apparently it was because of road rage... in Iowa City.According to this report at Black Heart Gold Pants, Clayborn “was stuck in a traffic jam near the corner of Bowery and South Johnson Streets when the cab driver honked at Clayborn, leading him to exit his vehicle and confront the man. The 20-year-old St. Louis native then reached in the driver’s side window and struck the man in the face, causing minor injuries. The attack finally stopped when Clayborn’s friend dragged him back to his vehicle."I’ve suffered through more than my share of terrible Midwest winters, but I’m not sure you can even blame the weather on flipping your lid in a traffic jam. And at 2:00 AM in Iowa City, how is that even possible?The 6-foot-3, 282 pound, defensive end is one of three sophomores named to the team leadership group.(There’s got to be a joke in there somewhere, but I’m struggling to find it.)NEW UPDATE: According to this report at ESPN.com by Big Ten blogger Adam Rittenberg, coach Kirk Ferentz has known about the incident since January."I’ve been aware of this alleged incident since January and consider it to be a serious situation,” Hawkeyes coach Kirk Ferentz said in a statement. “Based on what I know to this point, I think it is best to let due process run its course before coming to any judgment."The misdemeanor assault charge could have serious ramifications for an Iowa defensive front that depends on the contributions of Clayborn.
