It’s back on: Catholics vs. (reformed) Convicts in Sun Bowl

In July, it was reported that Miami and Notre Dame would renew their storied eighties rivalry with a game at Soldier Field in 2012.

Ahead of that game, the two private schools will take to the field in one of the 35 bowl games that litter the 2010 postseason college football landscape.

According to AOL Fanhouse national writer Brett McMurphy, the Irish and Hurricanes will play in this year’s edition of the Sun Bowl. The game will be played New Year’s Eve in El Paso.

It will mark the first time the two schools have met on a football field since 1990, a 29-20 Irish win in South Bend. The match-up was made possible because the Pac-10 did not have enough bowl-eligible teams.

In addition to the ’12 game in Chicago, the two schools will reportedly play a home-and-home series in 2016 and 2017.
