As you have no doubt heard by now, the Jameis Winston sexual assault allegations are back in the news.
This time around, the attorney for the Florida State quarterback’s accuser, John Clune, confirmed to multiple media outlets that FSU officials spoke to his client early last month for the first time as part of its Title IX investigation into the alleged incident. Another of the alleged victim’s attorneys claimed in April that FSU had shut down the investigation because Winston refused to cooperate or answer questions.
Thursday evening, Winston’s camp fired back.
In a scathing statement, Winston family advisor David Cornwell lashed out at the alleged victim, laying the blame for the delay in FSU’s investigation at the feet of the alleged victim and/or her attorney. The lawyer also used the alleged victim’s surname, as well as, as expected, claimed that his client would be exonerated a fourth time.
The alleged sexual assault occurred in December of 2012. Winston was never charged with a crime.
Below is the advisor’s statement, in its entirety:“The real story here is that after her Colorado attorneys created a media frenzy alleging that Florida State University failed to comply with its Title IX obligations, Ms. (name redacted) had to come clean and admit that she previously refused to cooperate with the university’s Title IX inquiry.
“Now that she has finally done her Title IX interview, this is the fourth time Ms. (name redacted) has told her story. We anticipate the same conclusion that followed her previous three statements to the Tallahassee Police Department, Florida State Attorney’s Office and in the FSU Code of Student Conduct hearing. Jameis Winston did not sexually assault Ms. (name redacted).”
Neither Winston nor his attorney, Tim Jansen, have publicly addressed the latest developments.
