McMackin reportedly steps down as Hawaii’s head coach

For the 21st time since the start of the 2011 season, a Div. 1-A school has made a change at head coach.

The latest to pull the plug on its current coaching situation is Hawaii. According to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, Greg McMackin has decided to “resign” as the Warriors’ head coach.

The school will hold a press conference at 8:30 ET Monday night to make the official announcement.

McMackin met with the school’s chancellor and athletic director Sunday night to discuss his status. The coach then informed his assistants and players of his decision in a meeting earlier today.

In his four years at the school, McMackin compiled a 29-25 record as the replacement for June Jones. McMackin is probably best known for the homosexual slur directed at a Notre Dame “cheer” in July of 2009
