Penn St. slops to win over LSU

As noted by Mike Florio earlier this afternoon, the field conditions for the Capital One Bowl between Penn State and LSU were, well, not exactly what you would call pristine.

As should be expected from a Big Ten team, however, the Nittany Lions proved they are good mudders. Or, at least, slightly better in the slop than their Bayou Bengal counterparts.

Thanks to a 21-yard field goal with 57 seconds left by Collin Wagner -- his fourth of the game -- Penn State was able to upend LSU 19-17.

Daryll Clark threw 216 yards and PSU’s only touchdown in his final game as a Nittany Lion. The senior was 3-for-3 and ran for 13 yards as he led Penn State on what turned out to be a game-winning 12-play drive late in the fourth.

However, the story of the day was the condition of the field. Abused by multiple games in a short span of time, it was the object of ridicule following the game.

“That was by far the worst field conditions I’ve ever seen in my life. For them to say this is the best bowl outside the BCS, I would expect to play on the best field outside the BCS,” said LSU receiver Brandon LaFell.

Personally, I loved the mud and slop and grime. It screamed football!!! to me.

A lil’ mud never hurt anybody.
