Unfortunately for Minnesota, the reported diagnosis on one of its top offensive players is decidedly worse than the initial prognosis.
Citing a person familiar with the injury, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune is reporting that Derrick Engel has a torn ACL, which effectively ends both his senior season and collegiate career. With the Gophers on a bye, the wide receiver suffered the injury during practice Sunday.
The football program has yet to officially address Engel’s injury or his status moving forward.
Engel’s 25 receptions for 401 yards and five touchdowns are tops on the team and far and away tops among receivers; the next-closest WR has eight catches.
