San Diego State will announce today that it is firing head coach Chuck Long, ESPN is reporting.Long, who previously got the dreaded vote of confidence from athletic director Jeff Schemmel, was hired as the Aztecs’ head coach prior to the 2006 season. The Aztecs went 3-9 in his first year, 4-8 in his second and 2-10 this season. This was the first 10-loss season in school history, and they weren’t even competitive in most of their losses this year.Long came in second to Bo Jackson in the 1985 Heisman Trophy voting, played briefly in the NFL for the Lions and Rams, and was an assistant to Bob Stoops at Oklahoma. There’s no word yet on whom San Diego State will look to as Long’s replacement. The school has a press conference scheduled for today at 4 p.m. Eastern, which can be watched here.
