TCU’s stadium gets blowed up

Yesterday, it was TCU’s national title hopes that were imploded by twin wins from No. 1 Oregon and No. 2 Auburn.

Less than 24 hours, its stadium suffered the same fate.

This implosion, however, was planned as the west side of Amon Carter Stadium came down Sunday morning as part of a $105 million renovation of the 80-year-old structure. The demolition, preparations for which started immediately after the Horned Frogs last home game Nov. 13 against San Diego State, took down a section of stands and the press box. As far as we know, no members of the media were in the press box at the time.

(We’ll allow the grousing over that development to subside before continuing...)

The renovation is expected to be completed in 2012, although the Horned Frogs will continue to play their homes games at the stadium in 2011.
