Mariners signed LHP David Huff to a minor league contract.

Diamondbacks signed LHP David Huff to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
The 35-year-old hurler hasn’t appeared in a big league game since 2016. He spent the past three seasons pitching in Japan, most recently posting a 3.97 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 58/21 K/BB ratio over 65 2/3 innings in 2019. He’ll compete for a spot in the Diamondbacks’ Opening Day bullpen.

David Huff was lit up again Monday, surrendering nine runs -- five earned -- in 2 2/3 innings in a loss to Seattle.
To the Mariners of all teams? Huff has allowed 17 runs in his last two starts, though since only eight of them were earned, his ERA remains respectable at 4.20. He’s not helping his case for 2012 with four losses in a row.

David Huff gave up two runs over 5 2/3 innings as part of a no-decision in a win over the Twins on Saturday.
He scattered eight hits while striking out a career-high seven, walking none and throwing two wild pitches. Huff pitched well after being called up from the minors in mid-July, posting a respectable 4.09 ERA and 36/17 K/BB ratio over 50 2/3 innings. The 27-year-old left-hander should battle for the final spot in the starting rotation during spring training next season.

Indians manager Manny Acta acknowledged Friday that David Huff will likely have to begin the season on the disabled list.
Huff strained his right hamstring Thursday while pitching in a split-squad game. Now that he’s essentially eliminated from the competition for the fifth spot in the rotation, Acta will have to decide between either Kevin Slowey or Jeanmar Gomez. He is expected to make an announcement Saturday.

Indians placed RHP David Huff on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 30, with a right hamstring strain.
As expected. Huff was eliminated from the fifth starter competition last week when he strained his right hamstring while pitching in a split-squad game. Jeanmar Gomez has since won the job.

Indians activated LHP David Huff (hamstring) from the 15-day disabled list, optioned him to Triple-A Columbus.
Huff tossed four shutout innings Friday in his first rehab start, showing he’s healthy. The Indians don’t have room for him in their rotation, though, so he’ll represent depth at Triple-A.

Rough timing for Huff, who has been trying to win the final spot in the Indians’ starting rotation. He’s now likely to open the regular season on the disabled list.

David Huff (hamstring) tossed four shutout innings Friday in his first minor league rehab start with Double-A Akron.
Huff, who began the season on the disabled list with a right hamstring strain, allowed one hit and one walk while striking out three. He could be ready to join the Indians’ rotation after a couple more rehab starts, though the Indians could also keep him in Triple-A.
