Jon Heyman of Fancred reports that Dayan Viciedo has re-signed with the Chunichi Dragons of Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball.
The former White Sox’ outfielder hasn’t played in the big leagues since 2014. He had a big year at the dish in 2018 though, slashing .348/.419/.555 with 26 homers and 99 RBI, prompting some to believe he may try to return stateside. His deal with the Dragons is believed to be for $10 million over three years.
  • KC Outfield #15
Alex Rios left Sunday’s game after running into the wall for a catch in fourth inning.
Rios hit his head on a padded brace. He appeared to be fine, but the White Sox decided to remove him as a precaution. We’ll update his status when more is known. Rios was replaced by Dayan Viciedo.
  • INT Outfield
Dayan Viciedo singled in four at-bats but struck out two more times Thursday against the Indians.
Viciedo is just 4-for-26 (.174) at the plate this spring and has struck out 10 times, including twice in three of his last four games. He’s also drawn just one walk. Viciedo holds plenty of upside, but it’s a reminder that he has a 48/11 K/BB ratio in 219 major league plate appearances and a 250/79 K/BB ratio in three minor league seasons.
  • INT Outfield
After getting Wednesday off, Dayan Viciedo went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts Thursday in the loss to the Orioles.
Viciedo did make a nice play in left field, scooping up an 8-year-old who strayed from the stands and helping to return him there. It’s one of the few contributions he’s made thus far, though. Viciedo is batting .222, and while he has homered twice, those are his only two RBI and runs scored in 36 at-bats.
  • INT Outfield
Dayan Viciedo was scratched from Wednesday’s lineup after having a tooth pulled.
He should be back in the lineup in the next day or two. Adam Dunn will start in his place in left field.
  • INT Outfield
Dayan Viciedo went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in a losing effort against the Red Sox on Thursday.
The blast off of Felix Doubront in the fourth inning was Viciedo’s third of the season. He is off to a very slow start, hitting just .196 (11-for-56) in his first full season as the White Sox starting left fielder. The organization believes strongly in his potential, but he’ll have to start hitting soon or he may be at risk of losing at-bats to Kosuke Fukudome or Brent Lillibridge.
  • INT Outfield
Dayan Viciedo took Milwaukee’s Zack Greinke deep for a solo home run in Monday’s blowout loss.
Viciedo’s second bomb of the spring brings his final Cactus League average to an ugly .196. Viciedo finishes with hits in six consecutive games, but still shouldn’t be counted on for early-season production in standard-sized mixed leagues as he gets used to the lay of the big-league land.
  • INT Outfield
Dayan Viciedo is not in Wednesday’s lineup against the Athletics.
Just a routine day off for Viciedo, who is hitting just .180 (9-for-50) with two homers and a 13/1 K/BB ratio. Kosuke Fukudome will start in right field Wednesday and bat seventh.
  • INT Outfield
Dayan Viciedo returned to action in Monday’s doubleheader against the Indians, first as a pinch-hitter (0-for-1), and then as a starter (1-for-3).
Viciedo was hit in the right elbow on Sunday, but clearly it’s not very serious. He is trudging along with a .221/.247/.349 batting line.
  • CWS Designated Hitter
Paul Konerko is not in the lineup for the second game of Monday’s doubleheader against the Indians.
Konerko went 1-for-4 with a run scored in the first game. Adam Dunn will start at first base in the nightcap while Dayan Viciedo serves as the DH and Kosuke Fukudome plays left.
