Cardinals signed TE Demetrius Harris, formerly of the Bears.
Arizona also brought in two additional defensive linemen, Josh Mauro and Margus Hunt, as well. Harris spent his 2020 season with the Bears, playing a mix of special teams and offense. A natural blocker and capable pass-catcher, Harris has a shot a cracking the Cardinals’ final roster. The lineman Arizona signed may end up as nothing more than camp bodies. The Cardinals were missing four defensive linemen Tuesday and open their preseason on Friday.

  • Bears signed TE Demetrius Harris to a one-year contract.
Harris lands on his feet only 48 hours after Cleveland announced his release. Previously inked to a two-year deal by former Browns GM John Dorsey, Harris totaled 15/149/3 receiving in his lone season with the team’s old regime. 29 in July, Harris is more than familiar with coach Matt Nagy’s scheme stemming from their time together in Kansas City. Chicago’s tight ends room remains a looming question mark with Trey Burton (fresh off hip surgery) and Adam Shaheen sitting out 15 games due to injuries last year.
  • Browns released TE Demetrius Harris.
The team also terminated the contracts of CB T.J. Carrie, OL Eric Kush, and LB Adarius Taylor. Starting TE David Njoku spent most of last year on injured reserve, but Harris still (surprisingly) took a backseat to Ricky Seals-Jones, underwhelming for 15/149/3 receiving in his lone season with the Browns. Only 28 and revered for his blocking prowess, Harris will undoubtedly land elsewhere as a multi-faceted goal line threat in the open market.
  • Demetrius Harris was held without a catch on one target in the Browns’ Week 17 loss to the Bengals.
Heralded as an under-the-radar free agent signing, Harris instead failed to improve upon his numbers as Travis Kelce’s backup in Kansas City, posting an anemic 15/149/3 line. It was particularly disappointing since David Njoku spent most of the year stashed away on injured reserve. Now going on 29, Harris probably isn’t guaranteed to be back at his currently scheduled $2.25 million salary for 2020.
  • Demetrius Harris caught 1-of-3 targets for one yard and a touchdown in the Browns’ Week 16 loss to the Ravens.
Harris hauled down a difficult contested catch over a Ravens defender on his lone reception. Still, he continues to lose plenty of snaps and targets alike to Ricky Seals-Jones, rendering each as non-realistic fantasy options. David Njoku was a healthy scratch for the second straight week.
  • Demetrius Harris caught 1-of-2 targets for 13 yards in the Browns’ Week 15 loss to the Cardinals.
RSJ worked as the TE group’s featured pass-game option. Both Seals-Jones and Harris are apparently ahead of David Njoku on the depth chart at the moment, as the Browns’ Week 1 starter was a healthy scratch in Week 15. Harris isn’t a realistic fantasy option in Week 16 against the Ravens.
  • Browns declared TE Demetrius Harris, WR Taywan Taylor, S Eric Murray, DE Olivier Vernon, OT Chris Hubbard, TE Pharaoh Brown, and DT Justin Zimmer inactive for Week 14 against the Bengals.
Harris has a shoulder injury, and both Vernon and Hubbard have knee issues.
  • Browns agreed to terms with TE Demetrius Harris, formerly of the Chiefs, on a two-year contract.
GM John Dorsey was in Kansas City with Harris. The 6'7/230 tight end has definite skills but had been stuck behind Travis Kelce with the Chiefs. Unfortunately, he now appears to be going to Cleveland to play behind David Njoku. Harris caught a career-best three touchdowns last year while averaging 13.7 yards per catch. He should be a factor in the red zone.
  • Demetrius Harris caught a two-yard pass in the Chiefs’ AFC Championship Game loss to the Patriots.
The Chiefs’ No. 2 tight end caught three of Patrick Mahomes’ 50 touchdowns in 2018. Going on 28, Harris has never surpassed 224 yards in a season. He is headed to free agency.
  • Coach Andy Reid singled out TE Demetrius Harris for performing well throughout OTAs.
Harris, a college basketball player, is a former power forward trying to make the popular conversion to tight end. Reid says Harris has gotten “better and better every day,” while adding he’s continually made plays despite the tough transition. Although Harris won’t contribute in a crowded Chiefs tight end corps this year, he’s a guy to keep an eye on moving forward.
