Lucien

A seventh-round pick out of Arizona State, Lucien never had a realistic shot to crack New England’s deep wideout corps. He’s now a practice squad candidate.

Standing in at 6-foot-1, 201, Lucien played bigger than his size in the Pac-12, dominating on fade routes with elite ball skills. He proceeded to flash 4.49 speed at Arizona State’s Pro Day. Lucien has excellent hands and route-running chops. The reason he was available in the seventh round is because it’s possible his big man’s game in a little man’s body won’t translate to the NFL level.

Bucs also waived S Josh Liddell and LB Antonio Simmons to make room for G Ruben Holcomb and CB Mark Myers. A seventh-round pick of the Patriots in 2016, Lucien could latch on somewhere else.

Lucien was originally a Patriots seventh-round pick in the 2016 draft. He was cut that year, picked up by Tampa Bay, then cut by the Bucs this past May.

Lucien (6'1/201) spent one year at ASU after transferring from UCLA, leading the Sun Devils in catches (66), yards (1,075) and touchdowns (eight). Lucien was nearly unstoppable on fade routes in college and has NFL-level ball skills, dropping just five passes over his final two seasons. Lucien helped himself at the Sun Devils’ Pro Day, blazing 4.49 with quality agility scores. Lucien lacks dominant size and overall athleticism, but he is a crisp route runner with sure hands. He has a chance to become a useful contributor if given the opportunity.
