Hogue

A fifth-round pick, Hogue played just 13 defensive snaps as a rookie, but made six special teams tackles in 13 games. Hogue should be in for more snaps as a reserve linebacker, but is still well off the radar in IDP leagues.

The 2011 fifth-rounder will pitch in on special teams in Carolina. He showed flashes of athleticism during offseason practices in Detroit, but didn’t possess the strength or coverage ability to succeed on defense.

A fifth-round pick in 2011, Hogue was an offseason puff piece all star, but seldom used through Detroit’s first five games. He’ll look for work as a special teamer.

The Panthers claimed Hogue off waivers when he was cut by the Lions in the middle of last year. Now that Jon Beason and Thomas Davis are healthy, Hogue moves on.

Extremely athletic and excellent in space, Hogue is still considered a very raw prospect, however. He needs to add bulk, and must improve his coverage skills after getting frequently caught out of position at Syracuse. He has a lot of upside, but many improvements to make before Detroit can run him out on the field for a meaningful number of snaps.

Hogue is a long-term prospect for the linebacker-needy Lions. His athleticism gives him a chance, but he must get stronger and better in coverage. Don’t expect an impact as a rookie.
