    Saints waived WR Emmanuel Butler.
A rookie UDFA out of Northern Arizona, Butler was running with the ones and twos at times this summer and drew some big praise during camp. It wasn’t enough to crack the 53-man roster, though Butler could be an option for the practice squad. Drops were Butler’s downfall this preseason.
  • FA Wide Receiver #18
Saints rookie WR Emmanuel Butler has been “turning heads” this offseason.
Butler (6'3/221) is an undrafted free agent out of Northern Arizona who showed 4.48 speed and a 36-inch vertical at the Lumberjacks’ Pro Day. At NAU, Butler posted 3,217 career yards and 33 career touchdowns with a 17.2 yards per reception average. Butler will be battling for a roster spot in the preseason.
  • FA Wide Receiver #18
Saints signed Northern Arizona WR Emmanuel Butler.
Butler (6’3/221) spent five seasons at NAU including a 2017 medical redshirt year (shoulder surgery), logging a career 187/3,217/33 (17.2 YPR) stat line and setting school records in touchdown catches and receiving yards. Plus sized and long with 33-inch arms, Butler blazed 4.48/4.50 forty times at the Lumberjacks’ Pro Day after turning in a 36-inch vertical at the Combine. Butler’s height, weight, and straight-line speed are NFL caliber, but his tape shows a wideout who may have trouble against big-league press corners due to an inability to create and sustain separation.
