Francisco Lindor (calf) to play another rehab game

Martinez fell victim to a Geraldo Perdomo solo homer in the top of the first inning, but pulled himself together for another strong outing. Martinez kept the Diamondbacks in check all night after the Perdomo homer. Of the six hits he allowed, five were singles, and he didn’t allow any free baserunners to get on. Martinez closes out June with a 2-1 record and a 5.14 ERA, but the inflated ERA is due to a poor six-run outing he allowed against the Tigers to start the month. Martinez’s next start is scheduled for Thursday against the Royals.

Outman did his damage off of Spencer Arrighetti in the fourth inning, crushing a 407-foot (105.3-mph EV) three-run shot that increased the Tigers’ lead to 7-0. He also walked in the third inning and scored the Tigers’ first run on a throwing error. The 29-year-old outfielder is now slashing .165/.245/.306 with a pair of homers and eight RBI in 94 plate appearances on the season.

McGonigle reached on an infield single in the third inning, then swiped second base and rode home on Kerry Carpenter’s two-run blast. He also walked in the fourth inning, stole second and scored on a bloop single off the bat of Dillon Dingler. The 21-year-old continues to impress, slashing .284/.391/.426 with six homers, 28 RBI and 11 stolen bases in his first 348 big league plate appearances.

Carpenter broke the game open with his 412-foot (105.3-mph EV) two-run shot off of Spencer Arrighetti in the third inning that increased the Tigers’ lead to 3-0. He struck out in each of his three other at-bats in the ballgame. For the season, the 28-year-old slugger is now hitting .220/.296/.470 with 11 home runs and 31 RBI.

Montero punched out three batters on the evening while allowing only one base on balls. The only real threat against him came as the Astros put two runners in scoring position with two outs in the seventh, but Montero got Cam Smith to ground out to end the inning. The 25-year-old righty got 13 whiffs on 96 pitches on the evening, posting a strong CSW of 31 percent. He’ll look to replicate this fine effort as he carries a 3.39 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and a 56/18 K/BB ratio (87 2/3 innings) into a tough matchup against the Yankees in New York on Wednesday.

Altuve notched two of his squad’s five total hits in the ballgame, with both of them coming off of Montero. With his two-hit attack, the 36-year-old infielder is now slashing .240/.313/.395 with eight homers, 21 RBI and one stolen base on the season.

Yikes. Arrighetti did manage to punch out seven batters in the contest, but he was completely ineffective against left-handers and that was his undoing. He served up a two-run homer to Kerry Carpenter in the third inning, then a solo shot to Colt Keith and a three-run blast to James Outman in the fourth before he was mercifully pulled. It’s the third straight rough outing for Arrighetti who has seen his ERA spike from 2.21 to 4.00 during that stretch. He’ll try to turn things around when he takes on the Rays at home next Friday.

The Angels hired former Cardinals’ general manager John Mozeliak as a Baseball Operations Consultant and he’ll serve as the interim general manager for the Angels until Minasian’s replacement is named. The Angels noted that Mozeliak will “oversee the day-to-day baseball operations for the Angels while refining a baseball operations strategy and assisting the organization in a search for a new general manager.”

It’s the first time that the 33-year-old southpaw has thrown off of a mound since undergoing surgery to remove loose bodies from his pitching elbow. He’ll repeat the process a couple of times before progressing to facing live hitters. Barring any setbacks, he’s likely looking at a return to the Dodgers’ rotation at some point near the end of July.

It’s at least a small step in the right direction for the 36-year-old slugger who has been shelved since the end of April due to a right calf strain. The Yankees have yet to place a timetable on his return, but it would be shocking to see him back before the All-Star break.
