The Roberto Clemente Award, which began in 1971, “is the annual recognition of a Major League player who best represents the game of Baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy, and positive contributions, both on and off the field.” Every team nominates one player for the award, and a panel of former players, journalists, and executives decides on the winner. Lindor was chosen, in part, due to his support for his native Puerto Rico following Hurricanes Maria and Fiona, an annual back-to-school initiative he runs in Queens, support for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, and the Lindor Leaders Program, which, in partnership with New Balance, is a “year-long leadership development initiative for students in Bayside High School’s Sports Medicine Program that focuses on mental health, communication, teamwork, and leadership.”

He’s the fifth shortstop to reach 300 homers, joining Alex Rodríguez, Ernie Banks, Cal Ripken Jr. and Miguel Tejada (if we want to be strict about position, we can eliminate Banks and maybe Tejada). Lindor hit four homers in four games from Sept. 8-12, but he’d been stuck on 299 since, going 8-for-52 with one RBI in his previous 13 games. Now he has No. 300 out of the way at the conclusion of maybe his toughest season as a major leaguer. He ends the year at .225/.309/.423 with 21 homers and 49 RBI in 105 games. The .732 OPS is a career low, barely worse than his .734 mark from his first season with the Mets in 2021.

Sure, why not. Baty will make his third appearance of the season at shortstop during New York’s penultimate regular-season contest with Francisco Lindor taking a turn at DH. The 26-year-old former top prospect Has shown some serious signs of life in recent weeks, hitting .395 (17-for-43) with three homers and 16 RBI since the start of September. He’ll be eligible at four different positions, including third base, first base, second base and outfield, which makes him an interesting late-round target as a bench option in fantasy drafts next spring.

Lindor’s eighth career slam put the Mets on top 11-2 in the eighth. Long before that, he led off the top of the first with a homer off Gerrit Cole. The two homers upped his season total to 20, a mark he’s now reached nine times. He’s one homer away from 300 for his career.

Lindor’s home run was his 17th of the season. He hit a solo shot off Sandy Alcantara in the first inning. Lindor has six runs scored, three home runs and five RBI in seven games so far in September. He’s hitting .230 with a .740 OPS and 39 RBI.

Lindor’s home run was his 13th of the season. He hit a solo shot off Kyle Harrison in the fifth inning. Lindor made the play of the game when he had to dive to catch a line drive with the bases loaded and two outs in a tie game in the ninth inning. He’s 18-for-65 (.276) with four home runs and eight RBI over his last 17 games. He’s hitting .239 with a .756 OPS and 33 this year.

Lindor drew a walk and scored a run in the first inning, then led off the eighth with a single and was caught stealing. He then came through for the Mets in the ninth, delivering the walk-off hit to score the winning run. The 32-year-old shortstop is hitting .244/.332/.442 with 12 homers, 38 runs scored, 32 RBI, and three steals across 292 plate appearances.

At first, it seemed like Lindor would be responsible for another disappointing game by the Mets. He let a ground ball skip past his glove that helped push across an early run in a game that stood at 1-0 until the sixth inning. Then, in the bottom of that inning, Lindor launched a 409 foot solo home run that tied the game. The Mets rallied after and held on to win this one. After a poor start to the season and calf injury that cost him most of the first half, Lindor’s now up to 12 home runs and a .769 OPS. Eight of those homers have come in his last 30 games though and he has an elite .921 OPS over that span.

Lindor’s homer was protected at 420 feet, and he also had a 104-mph double that would have been a homer in four ballparks. He’s hitting .286/.375/.549 with six homers and 18 RBI in 23 games during the second half. He totaled five homers and 12 RBI in 40 games during the first half.

The Guardians had briefly rallied to make a game of it before Lindor took Craig Yoho’s change up out some 380 feet to right field for his 10th homer of the season, putting the Mets’ lead back up to four runs. Lindor is in the midst of a challenging season offensively, but is hitting .258/.333/.518 over his last 15 games with four homers. He’s only attempted four stolen bases all season, which has broken his fantasy value almost as much as the injuries have, but Lindor is capable of reeling off a hot streak to end the season.

Cubs re-signed RHP Gabe Klobosits to a minor league contract.

After three years in indy ball, Klobosits had a 3.51 ERA in 33 1/3 innings for the Cubs’ Triple-A Iowa affiliate last season. His lone major league experience came with the Nationals in 2021, when he had a 5.56 ERA in 11 1/3 innings out of the pen.

The Hanwha Eagles are immediately posting third baseman Si Hwan Roh, making him available to MLB teams.

Roh, 25, hit .283/.360/.505 with 29 homers in 127 games for Hanwha last season. His best season came in 2023, when he finished with a .929 OPS that was more than 200 points better than the league average in the KBO. The last two years, he’s been about 120 points better than the league average, and his strikeout rate has increased; in 2026, he fanned 25.7 percent of the team in a league with a 19.5 percent strikeout rate overall. He’s also not viewed as a particularly strong defender at third base. His power is intriguing, but he might fall short of being a quality MLB regular.

Rangers selected the contract of RHP Aidan Curry from Double-A Frisco.

Curry, who could have become a minor league free agent, gets a spot on the 40-man after posting a 4.93 ERA and a 128/55 K/BB in 104 innings between three levels in 2026, with about two-thirds of his innings coming in Double-A. He has a starter’s arsenal and plenty of ability to miss bats, but he’s still probably going to be a reliever in the majors until his command takes a big step forward.

The Yankees aren’t renewing the contracts of special assistants Brian Sabean and Omar Minaya. sources told the New York Post’s Jon Heyman.

Both Sabean and Minaya joined the Yankees as advisors to Brian Cashman prior to the 2023 season. Sabean, the Giants’ GM from 1997-2014, had previously worked with the Yankees as a scout and later director of scoring before getting the Giants job. Minaya was previously a GM with the Mets and Expos. Sabean is 70 and Minaya turns 68 in a couple of weeks, so it’s hard to say if either will be eager to pursue other jobs.

Rangers declined RHP Jakob Junis’ $5 million mutual option for 2027.

This one comes as a mild surprise, as they’ll have to pay him a $1.25 million buyout anyways and Junis did a nice job out of the Rangers’ bullpen in 2026 — registering a 3.64 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and a 38/18 K/BB ratio over 54 1/3 innings while notching six saves. Perhaps they had already been informed that Junis planned to decline his side of the option. Either way, it shouldn’t be hard for the 34-year-old right-hander to find a new gig on the open market.

Rangers declined C Kyle Higashioka’s $7 million option for 2027.

The 36-year-old backstop will receive a $1 million buyout on his way to the free agent market. Higashioka provided a major offensive boost once he took over the backup catcher role for the Rangers in 2025, but he wasn’t able to recapture that magic in 2026 — slashing an anemic .218/.306/.370 with seven homers and 18 RBI in 186 plate appearances. He’ll likely have to settle for a minor league deal with an invitation to big league camp.

The news had been broken shortly before the announcement by Ken Rosenthal, Katie Woo and Chandler Rome of The Athletic. Diamondbacks RHP Michael Soroka declined his $10 million mutual option for 2027.

This one seemed like a no-brainer given Soroka’s success in 2026. He’ll receive a $1 million buyout and will hit free agency where he should be able to land a highly lucrative multi-year deal. The 29-year-old hurler made 21 starts for the Diamondbacks in 2026, posting a strong 3.41 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and a 114/29 K/BB ratio across 116 innings. He’ll have no shortage of teams vying for his services on the open market.

Angels selected the contract of LHP Nicolò Pinazzi from Triple-A Salt Lake.

The 27-year-old southpaw is now safe from being plucked in the Rule 5 draft. Pinazzi had a breakout 2026 season where he registered a scintillating 0.84 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and a 103/33 K/BB ratio over 64 innings across four minor league levels. He should get an opportunity to pitch out of the Angels’ bullpen at some point in 2027.

Giants sent C Andrew Knizner outright to Triple-A Sacramento.

The expectation is that the 31-year-old backstop will refuse the assignment and elect free agency, though that hasn’t happened yet. Knizner appeared in 29 games for the Giants in 2026, slashing .219/.288/.356 with a pair of home runs and four RBI in 80 plate appearances. He’ll have no problem latching on somewhere as extra catching depth if he decides to hit the open market.
