Nolan Arenado is not in the Diamondbacks’ starting lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Brewers.

It looks to be nothing more than a routine day of rest for the 35-year-old third baseman. Tim Tawa will start in his place at the hot corner and will bat seventh for the D’Backs against Brewers’ right-hander Brandon Sproat.

Byron Buxton was removed from Sunday’s game against the Yankees after aggravating his prior hip injury.

Buxton singled in the first inning and was caught trying to steal second base, which appears to have been where he sustained the injury. Hopefully it’s just a minor issue and the Twins are being cautious here, but with Buxton’s extensive injury history you just can’t rule out the chances of him heading to the injured list. Fantasy managers should have an alternative option in place for next week in the event that the dynamic 32-year-old outfielder is forced to miss some time.

Rockies recalled RHP TJ Shook from Triple-A Albuquerque.

He’ll take the place of left-hander Sean Sullivan who was optioned to Triple-A on Sunday. Shook, 28, holds a 4.91 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and a 3/0 K/BB ratio across 3 2/3 innings in three appearances out of the Rockies’ bullpen this season. He’ll function in a middle relief role.

Rockies optioned LHP Sean Sullivan to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Sullivan was lit up for six runs over 5 2/3 innings in a loss against the Giants on Saturday. They’ll now swap him out for a fresh bullpen arm for Sunday’s series finale at Coors Field. The 23-year-old left-hander will continue to hone his craft at the Triple-A level until his services are needed once more.

William Contreras is absent from the Brewers’ starting lineup for Sunday afternoon’s ballgame against the Rockies at Coors Field.

Since he shoulders a very heavy workload for a catcher, the Brewers are careful to mix in off days for Contreras to get him off of his feet once in a while, with Sunday afternoon games being the most common. Gary Sanchez will start in his place behind the dish and bat seventh against Diamondbacks’ southpaw Eduardo Rodriguez.

Shea Langeliers (thumb) remains shelved for Sunday’s contest against the Marlins.

Langeliers was removed from Friday night’s game due to a left thumb contusion and has now missed two consecutive starts. He’s still considered day-to-day. Brian Serven will start behind the dish for the Athletics and bat ninth against Eury Perez and the Marlins on Sunday afternoon in West Sacramento.

Chandler Simpson (finger) returned to the Rays’ starting lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Astros.

Simpson missed each of the team’s previous two games due to a sore finger that he suffered when jamming his hand into second base on a stolen base attempt. The 25-year-old speedster is starting in left field and batting fifth for the Rays on Sunday afternoon in Houston against Astros’ right-hander Peter Lambert.

Diamondbacks optioned INF LuJames Groover to Triple-A Reno.

The 24-year-old infielder has struggled in a part-time role for the Diamondbacks, slashing just .167/.259/.271 with one homer, four RBI and an 11/5 K/BB ratio in his first 54 plate appearances at the big league level. He’ll return to an everyday role at Triple-A Reno until he’s needed once more.

Diamondbacks recalled INF/OF Tim Tawa from Triple-A Reno.

Tawa returns after spending the requisite 10 days at Triple-A Reno after being optioned out last Thursday. He has struggled at the plate during his time with the Diamondbacks this season, slashing a paltry .172/.270/.266 with just one home run, eight RBI and an 18/9 K/BB ratio over 76 plate appearances. LuJames Groover was optioned to Triple-A Reno in a corresponding move.

Pirates designated INF Davis Wendzel for assignment.

Wendzel loses his spot on the club’s 40-man roster to make room for the addition of Noah Murdock on Sunday. The 29-year-old infielder has hit .230/.349/.461 with 10 homers and 38 RBI in 261 plate appearances at Triple-A Indianapolis this season. There’s at least a small chance that he could pique another team’s interest on waivers.
