Astros recalled RHP Miguel Ullola from Triple-A Sugar Land.

As expected, Ullola joins the Astros’ bullpen after registering a 5.48 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and a 64/35 K/BB ratio across 47 2/3 innings in 20 appearances (10 starts) at the Triple-A level. He’s expected to serve in a long relief role for the Astros and isn’t likely to have any fantasy value.
Angels' Joyce firmly among MLB's 'best relievers'
James Schiano breaks down Ben Joyce's recent play after he recorded his third straight save on Tuesday night, sharing why he needs to be "scooped up" in fantasy leagues.

Jeremy Peña was removed from Wednesday’s game against the Angels after being hit by a pitch on the left hand.

Peña took a 100 mph sinker from Angels starter Walbert Ureña off his left hand in the first inning, but managed to remain in the contest initially. He was lifted for a pinch-hitter in the third inning. The 28-year-old shortstop has been one of the hottest hitters in baseball during the second half. He’ll presumably head for imaging to determine whether he suffered any fractures. There should be an update on his status following the contest.

Aaron Nola picked up the win on Wednesday evening against the Marlins, throwing seven innings of one-run ball while striking out eight.

Nola allowed five hits without walking anyone in his 100-pitch outing. The veteran right-hander has pitched far better lately after posting a 6.04 ERA through the end of June. Since then, he has given up more than three earned runs just once. Given that he’s 33 and signed through 2030, the turnaround has been a much-needed development for reasons beyond this season. Nola will look to continue his second-half rebound next time out against the Mariners in Seattle.

Jhoan Duran struck out one in a scoreless ninth to earn the save in Wednesday’s 4-1 victory over the Marlins.

Duran allowed one hit and needed 18 pitches to retire the side. He earned his 28th save of the season and is closing in on his career high of 32, set last year. The Twins never used him as a full-time closer, but the Phillies have since trading for him at last summer’s deadline. Duran has responded with a career-high K-BB% in 2026, trailing only Mason Miller among qualified relievers.

Sandy Alcantara took the loss on Wednesday in Philadelphia, allowing three earned runs on eight hits and one walk over six innings pitched.

Alcantara only struck out one batter on the evening but came away with a quality start. He has his lowest strikeout rate since 2019, but his run prevention has rebounded after last season’s 5.36 ERA. He leads MLB in innings pitched this season, a feat he also accomplished in 2022. He’ll carry a 3.46 ERA into his next matchup, a home start against the Red Sox.

Luis Arraez went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, and two runs scored as the Phillies defeated the Marlins 4-1 on Wednesday evening.

Arraez’s homer was a two-run shot off Sandy Alcantara in the bottom of the third. It was his second round-tripper with his new team. The lefty-hitting infielder has started at second base and hit cleanup in all 15 games since the Phillies acquired him before the trade deadline.

Javier Sanoja went 3-for-3 with a solo home run as the Marlins fell to the Phillies 4-1 on Wednesday.

Sanoja’s homer was a solo shot off Aaron Nola in the sixth inning, the only run Miami could muster on the evening. He entered the game hitting .308/.345/.519 in August, a stretch in which he has operated as the Marlins’ primary third baseman.

Jac Caglianone made an early exit from Wednesday’s game against the Athletics.

Caglianone was lifted for pinch-hitter John Rave in the fifth inning. He was 1-for-1 with a single and was also hit by a pitch earlier in the contest prior to departing. It’s a tough break for fantasy managers since he’s been on a tear at the plate recently. There should be an update on his status shortly.

Phillies signed LHP Nestor Cortes to a one-year contract.

The deal is now official. Cortes has been optioned to Low-A Clearwater to continue working his way back from last year’s left arm surgery. The 31-year-old southpaw could potentially be an option, most likely as a multi-inning relief weapon, for the Phillies at some point in the closing stages of the regular season and playoffs. He’s compiled a strong 3.94 ERA across 602 1/3 innings in the majors, mostly as a starter, since 2018.

Phillies designated RHP Brad Keller for assignment.

No real surprise here. Keller underwent a right elbow UCL reconstruction surgery with an internal brace and flexor tendon repair last month. The 31-year-old signed a two-year contract with the Phillies last offseason and was highly unlikely to pitch again for them given his 13-16 month recovery timeline following the procedure. The move frees up a spot on Philadelphia’s 40-man roster to sign lefty starter Nestor Cortes.

Brett Bateman was removed from Wednesday’s game against the Rays with right hamstring tightness.

Bateman was 0-for-2 before being replaced by Myles Straw in the fifth inning. He’ll undergo further evaluation to determine the severity of the injury. The 24-year-old rookie has hit .271 (13-for-48) with four RBI and one steal in 11 games since being called up earlier this month.
