Seiya Suzuki hits walk-off single vs. Padres

Hernandez did his damage off of A’s right-hander Jack Perkins in the opening inning, with his 414-foot (102.0-mph EV) three-run shot giving the Marlins a 5-0 lead before an out had been recorded. The 26-year-old outfielder also singled in the ninth inning. With his two-hit attack, he’s now hitting .223/.296/.413 with nine long balls and 32 RBI on the season.

Marsee capped off a six-run uprising in the opening inning with his 381-foot (106.2-mph EV) solo shot off of Jack Perkins. He then drew a walk in the fifth inning and was plunked in the seventh before getting caught trying to steal second base. With his 1-for-3 night, the 25-year-old outfielder is now hitting .189/.311/.295 with five homers, 22 RBI and 18 stolen bases (in 28 attempts) on the season.

Phillips walked two and struck out two batters in the contest. His offense stated him to a six-run lead in the top half of the first inning, and all Phillips had to do was keep the train on the tracks to earn a victory. Unfortunately, he couldn’t do so. He served up a two-run blast to Nick Kurtz in the second inning and a bases-clearing double to Jeff McNeil in the fourth before ultimately exiting. Phillips got eight whiffs on 71 pitches on the night, registering an uninspiring CSW of just 23 percent. He’ll try to finish the first half strong as he brings a 3.52 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and a 52/32 K/BB ratio (69 innings) into Thursday’s showdown against the Mariners.

Kurtz led off the home half of the first inning with a single but wound up getting stranded at third. He then got the A’s on the board with his majestic 457-foot (112.9-mph EV) two-run shot off of Tyler Phillips in the third inning. Kurtz also walked in the contest. The 23-year-old slugger has been a revelation this season, slashing a monstrous .283/.425/.527 with 20 long balls and 66 RBI.

Perkins also issued four walks on the night, though he did pile up eight strikeouts. The Marlins exploded for six runs in the opening inning, including a three-run blast by Heriberto Hernandez and a solo shot by Jakob Marsee. They tacked on another in the second before Perkins settled in. The 26-year-old righty got 10 swings and misses 91 offerings in the game, posting a CSW of 33 percent. He’ll carry a 6.75 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and a 70/21 K/BB ratio (54 2/3 innings) into his final start of the first half on Thursday against the Tigers in Detroit.

The 27-year-old hurler will take the place of the injured Carlos Rodon in the Yankees’ rotation for the time being. Beck sports a 3.07 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and a 91/28 K/BB ratio over 88 innings in 16 starts at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on the season. He could be worth a look as a streaming option in deeper mixed leagues on Saturday.

The Yankees needed to clear a spot on their roster for Brendan Beck to start on Saturday, and with Trent Grisham back from the injured list Jones became expendable. The dynamic 25-year-old hit .233/.317/.370 with two homers, seven RBI, one stolen base and a 34/9 K/BB ratio over 82 plate appearances during his time with the Bombers.

In a game that featured a nearly two-hour-long rain delay and an extra frame to decide the winner, Watson finally sent fans home happy in the bottom of the 10th inning when he slapped an RBI single up the middle to drive in Steven Kwan for the game-winning run. Watson came on as a pinch hitter for David Fry in the bottom of the eighth inning and is slashing a respectable .271/.300/.396 over his first 15 big league games.

Williams was solid in this one, keeping the White Sox off the board through the first four innings. In the top of the fifth inning, however, he ran into a bit of trouble. Williams allowed singles to the first two batters he faced in the frame, but retired the next two on a sacrifice fly and a fielder’s choice. With runners on first and third and two outs, Williams nearly escaped the frame, but a three-run homer by Miguel Vargas broke things open for the White Sox in the inning and gave them a 3-1 lead. The game would then go into a rain delay shortly after Vargas’ homer, which ended Williams’ night. He’s now allowed three earned runs or fewer in each of his last three starts and is next scheduled to toe the rubber on Thursday against the Twins.

Vargas blasted a three-run homer off Guardians starter Gavin Williams in the fifth inning to give the White Sox a 3-1 lead. It was the 20th homer of the season for Vargas, who continues to put together a career year as he’s now sitting on 20 homers and 54 RBI with just over a week to go before the MLB All-Star break.
