Francisco Alvarez is in the lineup at DH for Tuesday’s game against the Blue Jays.

It’s an encouraging sign to see Alvarez in New York’s lineup following a bizarre incident during Monday’s game when he was inadvertently struck by teammate Ronny Mauricio’s bat while he was warming up in the on-deck circle. Mets interim manager Andy Green told reporters that Alvarez checked out fine afterwards. Disaster averted.
White Sox 'nailed' draft with Cholowsky, Thome
The desk shares rapid reactions to the first round of the 2026 MLB Draft, where the White Sox left with two excellent prospects, the Marlins got value, and the Rockies added to a rising farm system.

Nationals recalled 1B Abimelec Ortiz from Triple-A Rochester.

It’s the first trip to the big leagues for the 24-year-old slugger. Ortiz was slashing .235/.332/.481 with 16 homers, 59 RBI and a 60/31 K/BB ratio over 304 plate appearances at Triple-A Rochester. He’s unlikely to see enough playing time to gain any sort of relevance from a fantasy perspective. He’ll serve as the club’s designated hitter and bat third against Yankees’ right-hander Will Warren in his MLB debut on Sunday.

Nationals designated LHP Matt Krook for assignment.

Krook struggled in three appearances with the Nationals, posting a 6.75 ERA, 1.88 WHIP and a 2/2 K/BB ratio across 2 2/3 innings including suffering a blown save against the Yankees on Friday night. It’s possible that he could once again attract interest on waivers as bullpen help is difficult to come by.

Reds recalled RHP Chase Petty from Triple-A Louisville.

Petty was just optioned to Louisville on July 4 to make room in the Reds’ rotation for the return of Hunter Greene. Now with Nick Lodolo (finger) landing on the injured list, he’ll get another opportunity. The 23-year-old righty holds a 4.37 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and a 9/7 K/BB ratio over 22 2/3 innings in 10 appearances (two starts) with the Reds this season.

Reds placed LHP Nick Lodolo on the 15-day injured list with a blister on his left index finger.

Lodolo was pulled from Saturday’s start against the Cubs in the sixth inning after the blister developed. This has been a recurring issue for him dating back to 2023, so the Reds will sit him down and make sure that it fully heals before bringing him back. Chase Petty was recalled from Triple-A Louisville to take his place in the club’s rotation for the time being.

Red Sox recalled RHP Brayan Bello from Triple-A Worcester.

As anticipated, Bello rejoins the Red Sox for Sunday’s first half finale against the Mets. It sounds like he’ll be available out of the bullpen if needed on Sunday but is likely to jump into the Red Sox’ rotation following the All-Star break to fill in for the injured Ranger Suarez.

Red Sox designated LHP Danny Coulombe for assignment.

The 36-year-old southpaw fired a pair of scoreless innings to close out Saturday’s game against the Mets, but overall holds an uninspiring 4.50 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and a 10/15 K/BB ratio in 22 innings for the Red Sox this season. He has proven to be a viable bullpen arm and could attract interest on waivers.

Red Sox activated INF/OF Nick Sogard from the 10-day injured list; optioned him to Triple-A Worcester.

Sogard missed more than a month’s worth of action due to soreness in his right side. He had been on a minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Worcester and that’s where he’ll remain at least through the All-Star break as he continues to round back into game shape.

Marlins recalled LHP Dax Fulton from Triple-A Jacksonville.

With William Kempner (elbow) landing on the injured list, Fulton will get another opportunity to pitch out of the Marlins’ bullpen. The 24-year-old southpaw has compiled a 2.57 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and a 6/3 K/BB ratio across seven innings in three appearances at the big league level this season.

Marlins placed RHP William Kempner on the 15-day injured list with a right elbow sprain.

No word yet on how long the 25-year-old hurler will be sidelined for. Kempner was excellent in nine appearances for the Marlins, posting a 2.92 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and a 14/2 K/BB ratio across 12 1/3 innings in his nine appearances. Dax Fulton was recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville in a corresponding move to take his place in the Marlins’ bullpen.

William Contreras is not in the Brewers’ starting lineup for Sunday’s first-half finale against the Pirates.

It’s the third straight week that Contreras has gotten a breather on a Sunday. If you’re going to get a day off though, doing so against Paul Skenes isn’t the worst idea in the world. Gary Sanchez will start in his place behind the dish and bat fifth for the Brewers on Sunday afternoon in Pittsburgh.
