Giants placed 3B Matt Chapman on the 10-day injured list with an abdominal strain.

Chapman receives some time off to rest and recover after playing through an abdominal issue since April. The 33-year-old defensive stalwart has hit .235/.324/.368 with seven homers and 42 RBI across 352 plate appearances through 84 games. He figures to be on the move to a contender ahead of next month’s trade deadline.
McClanahan could go on short IL stint
Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Shane McClanahan left his last start early with back tightness and Eric Samulski thinks a short trip to the IL is in the cards to let him rest for a potential trip to the postseason.

Tigers optioned RHP Brenan Hanifee to Triple-A Toledo.

Hanifee has posted a 3.98 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and an 8/6 K/BB ratio across 20 1/3 innings in 21 appearances with the Tigers this season. He’ll head out to make room for Enmanuel De Jesus in the club’s bullpen as the Tigers wanted an extra left-hander to battle the Athletics over the weekend. Hanifee should get another chance with the big league club before the summer is through.

Mariners recalled INF Leo Rivas from Triple-A Tacoma.

With J.P. Crawford (wrist) landing on the injured list on Friday, Rivas will have another opportunity to show the Mariners what he can do in a reserve role. The 28-year-old has hit .131/.263/.172 with zero homers and seven RBI in 120 plate appearances with the M’s this season.

Mariners placed INF J.P. Crawford on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to July 30, with left wrist inflammation.

This move doesn’t come as a major surprise as Crawford missed the team’s previous two games with the injury and there were indications that a stint on the injured list was coming if he wasn’t ready to go by Friday. Leo Rivas was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma in a corresponding move.

Tigers designated RHP Andre Granillo for assignment.

The 26-year-old hurler was claimed off of waivers from the Nationals just prior to the All-Star break, but the Tigers needed the 40-man roster spot for the arrival of Max Clark on Friday. It’s possible that Granillo will attract interest on waivers once again.
