Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that a few members of the team are dealing with food poisoning, so perhaps Jones is one of them. The 25-year-old is hitting .225/.313/.366 in his 80 MLB plate appearances this season with a 42.5 percent strikeout rate and a 20.5 percent swinging strike rate. With Trent Grisham (hamstring) set to return this weekend, Jones may be headed back to Triple-A. Jose Caballero will start in center field on Wednesday with Oswald Cabrera at third base and Amed Rosario at designated hitter.

The Yankees needed to clear a spot on their roster for Brendan Beck to start on Saturday, and with Trent Grisham back from the injured list Jones became expendable. The dynamic 25-year-old hit .233/.317/.370 with two homers, seven RBI, one stolen base and a 34/9 K/BB ratio over 82 plate appearances during his time with the Bombers.

Yankees optioned INF/OF Oswaldo Cabrera to Triple-A Scanton/Wilkes-Barre.

He didn’t get a hit or walk in 11 plate appearances with the Yankees since his June 24 call-up. Cabrera returns to a .271/.330/.397 line in 68 games with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Chisholm appears to have avoided a serious injury after a frightening collision with teammate Jasson Domínguez on a pop-up in shallow right field during Monday’s game against Detroit. It’ll be speedster José Caballero taking over at second base on Tuesday evening, but fantasy managers shouldn’t anticipate a lengthy absence.

Spencer Jones struck out all three times up before being lifted for a pinch-hitter Sunday against the Red Sox.

There were only two hits from the Yankees tonight by the time he was pulled, so Jones’s bad game won’t be held overly much against him. However, he is just 2-for-16 with two walks and nine strikeouts over the last 10 days. The odds are increasing that he’ll be sent down when Trent Grisham and Ryan McMahon return this week.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Trent Grisham (hamstring) is likely to return during their upcoming six-game homestand next week.

Boone added that Grisham is likely to play in at least one minor league rehab contest prior to returning to New York’s lineup. The 29-year-old outfielder hit the injured list with a right hamstring strain back on June 13 after slashing .232/.341/.406 with eight homers and six steals as the Yankees’ primary leadoff hitter against right-handed pitching. It sounds like he’s on track to make it back at some point next week with all-or-nothing rookie slugger Spencer Jones likely headed back to the minors as the corresponding move.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. is out of the lineup for Saturday’s contest against the Red Sox.

Chisholm was at the epicenter of a bizarre lollipop controversy earlier this week, but he’s had a solid month at the plate from a fantasy perspective, launching six homers and swiping 10 bases, despite hitting just .189 (14-for-74) since the start of June. The 28-year-old takes a seat with rookie lefty Jake Bennett taking the ball for the Red Sox at Fenway Park on Saturday afternoon. It’ll be José Caballero filling in at second base.

José Caballero went 2-for-4 and collected his eighth homer and his 18th steal Thursday against the Red Sox.

This was another outfield start for Caballero, as both he and Anthony Volpe are getting to play pretty regularly right now. They’ll probably change once Trent Grisham and Ryan McMahon return, but both offer short-term value in shallow leagues.

Yankees recalled INF/OF Oswaldo Cabrera from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Cabrera was hitting .271/.330/.397 with seven home runs and six steals in 68 games at Triple-A. The Yankees will likely use Jose Caballero at third base with Ryan McMahon (illness) on the injured list, so Cabrera would just be up for a bench role.

McMahon has just 39 plate appearances in the month of June, hitting .222/.282/.389 with two home runs and four RBI. With Trent Grisham (hamstring) likely being activated off the injured list soon, the Yankees could simply opt to play Jose Caballero at third base the rest of the way.

The 25-year-old’s all-or-nothing approach has yielded a pair of spectacular moonshots and a sky-high 40.6 percent strikeout rate across 64 plate appearances at the highest level this season.

It’s his 13th career mulithomer game, including his second of this year. It’s his fourth game ever with three extra-base hits. The other three all came with the Pirates in a three-month span in 2019, with the last being his only three-homer game. He’s batting .247/.304/.434 through 345 plate appearances this year.
