Anthony served as Boston’s primary offensive catalyst in a much-needed win at Tropicana Field by crushing a 438-foot homer off Rays starter Ian Seymour in the opening frame. He also supplied a two-run single in the ensuing frame to drive in three runs for the first time this season. The 22-year-old will head into the postseason as the Red Sox’ top-of-the-order table-setter and is probably going to have to be a difference-maker if they’re going to make a deep playoff push.

No word on how the injury occurred, but Eldridge is considered day-to-day. Brett Harris replaced him in the Giants lineup and will start at first base against Dodgers’ right-hander Tyler Glasnow.

Simpson finished 0-for-5 at the plate, including a bases-loaded ground out to end the contest in the ninth inning, which won’t help his odds of wrestling the AL batting title away from Astros superstar Yordan Alvarez. On the positive side, especially for fantasy purposes, he picked up his fourth stolen base in his last three games as he makes a serious push to reach the lofty 50-steal threshold before the conclusion of the regular season.

Miller was summoned to protect a three-run lead with Aroldis Chapman presumably unavailable due to an ongoing lat issue. Things got interesting after Victor Mesa Jr. reached on an infield single and Yandy Díaz drew a one-out walk to bring the potential tying run to the plate. A ground out by ensuing batter Jonathan Aranda brought a run home before Miller wisely elected to walk red-hot Junior Caminero. A wild pitch enabled Ryan Vilade to reach base safely after striking out before Miller got speedster Chandler Simpson to ground out to end the contest. Miller has been phenomenal as a setup specialist since coming over from the Giants at the trade deadline, but there’s a chance he picks up a few more saves down the home stretch depending on Chapman’s health and availability, which gives him some short-term fantasy appeal.

Suarez gave up a run in the opening frame, but managed to keep Tampa Bay off the scoreboard into the late innings despite issuing a season-high five walks. The control issues seem like a bit of an outlier considering he’s rarely handed out more than three free passes and four of those five walks went to Yandy Díaz and Junior Caminero in this one. He finished with five strikeouts and allowed three earned runs or fewer for the third consecutive start since the beginning of September. He’ll wrap up the regular season with a home matchup against the Guardians on Thursday.

Seymour fell behind early when Roman Anthony tagged him for a solo homer and a two-run single in the first two innings. He also surrendered a solo blast to lefty-masher Jahmai Jones in the third inning. It was just the fifth time this season that he allowed multiple homers in a start. He finished with five strikeouts and only issued two walks. The 27-year-old lefty has hit a bit of a rough patch to close out the season, which makes it challenging to trust him against the Yankees in New York in his final regular-season outing on Thursday. Still, he offers enough strikeout upside that he’s worth rolling out there in most fantasy leagues.

Sosa was responsible for three of the six hits the Phillies tallied as a team on Friday, with his biggest coming on a solo blast in the sixth inning off of Mets starter Zac Thornton. It was the eighth homer of the season for Sosa, who has hit safely in four of his last six games.

Despite the four-out performance, Núñez needed only 11 pitches to retire the Phillies. The righty would force Alec Bohm to ground out on two pitches to end the eighth inning, and pitched a perfect ninth inning to close things out. Núñez has strung together a solid month to close out the season, boasting a 1.59 ERA over 5 2/3 innings while striking out four.

The 31-year-old right-hander did brilliant work for the Marlins this season, posting a 2.62 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and a 41/12 K/BB ratio over 34 1/3 innings of work. He should be fully recovered and ready to go for the start of the 2027 season.

Soto’s first hit of the night came on a double in the second inning that didn’t lead to any runs being scored. In the sixth inning, Soto would hit a three-run homer off of Phillies reliever Orion Kerkering to push the Mets’ lead to 6-2. It was the 26th homer of the season for Soto, who now has four homers in September and has hit safely in three of his last five games. He is slashing just .239/.329/.463 in the month.
