Backhus fortifies Philadelphia’s bullpen heading into the final two games of a series against the Yankees’ lefty-heavy lineup. The 28-year-old southpaw has posted a pedestrian 5.87 ERA across 15 1/3 innings in the big leagues this season.

Wilson was called up on Thursday and threw two scoreless innings in his lone appearance for the Phillies. With Max Lazar getting sent down, the Phillies will be making two additions on Monday. Kyle Backhus returning from the IL is one of them. The other is likely to be Alan Rangel, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Scott Lauber, and Rangel could either start or work bulk innings in what had been Andrew Painter’s spot.

Kyle Backhus (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment Tuesday with Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Backhus has been out since the end of April with inflammation in his left elbow. The 28-year-old will likely need to make a handful of rehab appearances before being an option for the Philadelphia bullpen in the middle of June.

Phillies placed LHP Kyle Backhus on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to April 27th, with left elbow inflammation.

The Phillies made the move in-between games of Thursday’s twin bill against the Giants. Trevor Richards was promoted from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to take his spot in the club’s bullpen. No word yet on the severity of the elbow issue for Backhus or how long he’ll be shelved for.

Backhus was sent to Triple-A just a week ago, but will be back with Zach Pop (calf) landing on the injured list. The 28-year-old left-hander has allowed three runs on four hits in three innings for the Phillies with a 4/1 K/BB ratio.

With Orion Kerkering (hamstring) set to come off the injured list today, the Phillies sent Backhus down to Triple-A to make room. The 28-year-old left-hander has allowed three runs on four hits in three innings with a 4/1 K/BB ratio.

After dealing away left-hander Matt Strahm on Friday morning, the Phillies moved quickly to add another left-handed reliever to their bullpen mix. Backhus, 27, registered a 4.62 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and a 22/8 K/BB ratio over 25 1/3 innings across 32 appearances with the Diamondbacks in 2025, his first taste of big league action. He’ll add bullpen depth from the left side for the Phillies.

Backhus had a 4.62 ERA, two saves and 10 holds while spending the last three months in Arizona’s pen. He loses his spot now with the Diamondbacks wanting to find out if Philip Abner might be an upgrade.

Kyle Backhus got one out against the Twins for his second save Sunday.

Ryan Thompson, pitching for a third straight day, opened the ninth with a two-run lead and retired the first two batters he faced. However, after an Austin Martin single, the D-backs went to a lefty against Kody Clemens. Backhus ended up walking Clemens and then plunking Luke Keaschall before getting Matt Wallner to fly out to end the game.

The Yankees are still waiting on the results of the MRI exam that Lombard underwent after making an early exit from the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader against the Red Sox, but it sounds like they’re optimistic that he was able to avoid any sort of significant injury. Expect the club to provide another update on his status prior to Sunday’s series finale.
