ESPN’s Alden González reports the Twins are acquiring RHP Tommy Nance and international pool space money from the Blue Jays for C/3B Ryan Sprock.

Nance had a 1.99 ERA in 30 games pitched last year for the Jays and, despite missing time to injury this year, has a 3.82 ERA in 33 innings for the Jays in 2026. He’s ostensibly bullpen help for the Twins, though we can’t help but wonder if the Jays really think highly of him considering they’re also not far out of a playoff spot. Sprock, a 2025 eighth-round pick, has a .306/.436/.441 line for Single-A Fort Myers as a 21-year-old and was recently promoted to High-A Cedar Rapids.
Mariners call up elite pitching prospect Anderson
The Seattle Mariners called up top pitching prospect Kade Anderson, who is expected to start against the Chicago Cubs this Saturday. Eric Samulski emphasizes why he should be added in all fantasy formats.

Brendan Donovan was a late scratch Saturday against the Cubs.

The Mariners didn’t say what the issue was, though that’s not unusual for them. Weston Wilson replaced him at third base.

Logan Henderson improved to 8-2 after limiting the Braves to one run over six innings on Saturday.

Aaron Ashby notched his second save by throwing a scoreless ninth Saturday against the Braves.

With Abner Uribe on the IL, Ashby is now the fallback to Trevor Megill, and it’s gotten him two saves in seven days. Megill rested today after earning saves on both Thursday and Friday. Ashby did get into a little trouble, giving up a pair of singles, but he got Austin Riley to hit into a double play to end the game.

Martín Pérez gave up four runs — one earned — over four innings Saturday in a loss to the Brewers.

Pérez’s own error led to the three unearned runs in the third inning. It’s the second straight outing in which Pérez has allowed four runs after three straight scoreless starts to begin the month, and he’s now 8-8 with a 3.12 ERA. He’s due to pitch at home against the Rockies next weekend, making him a nice streaming option.

Luis Arraez left Saturday’s game after three innings with lower body cramps.

Consider him day-to-day, Arraez seemed to having issues after rounding second on an Alec Bohm single. He stayed in and came around to score, but he was replaced by Bryson Stott at second base for the start of the fourth.

Joe Musgrove has joined the Padres to throw a bullpen session ahead of his next rehab start.

There was some thought that Musgrove would come off the IL this weekend, but that he gave up five runs in his last rehab start seemed to put the kibosh on that. It sounds like he’ll pitch again in the minors before getting a rotation spot.

Twins signed RHP Ron Marinaccio to a minor league contract.

Marinaccio was designated for assignment by the Reds on Monday and opted for free agency after clearing waivers. The 31-year-old former Yankees reliever has a 4.79 ERA in 33 relief appearances for three teams this year. He has a career 3.98 ERA and a 197/92 K/BB in 183 innings since debuting in 2022.

Angels placed 1B Nolan Schanuel on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to Aug. 21, with a strained right intercostal muscle.

Christian Moore is up to replace him, so we’ll likely see a lot of him at second and Vaughn Grissom at first. No word yet on what kind of absence we’re looking at for Schanuel, who has hit .276/.351/.385 in 446 plate appearances, but he can be dropped in shallow leagues.

Meckler was hit in the helmet by a pitch in Thursday’s game. Gustavo Campero was called up in his place and is starting in left field tonight.
