Report: Rudy Martin Jr. to exercise out clause

Crawford was scratched before Monday’s game against the Reds, but the Mariners didn’t give a reason at the time. Colt Emerson was inserted into the lineup in his place.

Rodríguez departed after being hit on the back of his leg by a throw while beating out a grounder. He was also feeling some soreness from the impact of hitting first base afterwards. Still, it sounds like there aren’t going to be any lasting problems here.

Suzuki’s home run was his 16th of the season. He hit a two-run shot off Jack Flaherty in the bottom of the third inning. Suzuki extended his hitting streak to nine games, during which he’s 13-for-34 (.382) with three home runs and eight RBI. He’s hitting .273 with an .833 OPS and 50 RBI.

Dingler now has 21 home runs this season. He hit a solo shot off Jameson Taillon in the first inning and another solo shot off Tyler Ferguson in the eighth inning. Dingler had been 2-for-10 with no walks and three strikeouts in three games since the All-Star break entering Monday. He’s hitting .268 with an .856 OPS and 63 RBI.

Raleigh’s slam came on Caleb Ferguson’s first pitch after intentionally walking Dominic Canzone to lead the bases in the seventh, so that had to feel especially good. Raleigh followed it up with a double-play ball in the eighth, but he wound up with an RBI anyway after Edwin Arroyo had the ball dribble out of his glove while trying to toss it to the shortstop. Raleigh also struck out twice and had another groundout, so it was really just the one good swing tonight. Still, maybe it will help. It’s his sixth career slam and his 10th homer in 297 plate appearances this season.

He struck out six. He threw just 80 pitches to get his 18 outs, and it seems like he still would have had something in the tank for the seventh. However, the Mariners pulled him with a 1-0 lead. It wound up working out just fine, as Nick Davila pitched a perfect top of the seventh, and the Mariners put the game away with six runs in the bottom of the inning. Kirby is 8-8 with a 3.57 ERA. He’s fanned 45 in 42 innings since the beginning of June after totaling 59 strikeouts over his first 74 innings. He’ll likely make his next start next Monday in Texas.

Abbott is 0-2 while posting a 3.86 ERA in his four starts this month. Things don’t figure to get better in Cincinnati with the team likely to sell before the deadline, so even if Abbott is fairly effective, he’s probably not going to have much mixed-league value the rest of the way. He’s in line to face the Cardinals next time out.

Robles also threw out Edwin Arroyo at home after Arroyo made a surprising attempt to tag up on a 229-foot flyout from Sal Stewart in the second. Put it all together and it has to be Robles’s best game of the year to date. He was hitting just .210/.259/.240 with no homers and five RBI in 109 plate appearances.

Greene’s home run was his 15th of the season. He hit a three-run shot off Jameson Taillon in the first inning. Greene has hit home runs in consecutive games and has five RBI in four games since the All-Star break. He’s hitting .288 with an .854 OPS and 50 RBI.

Taillon gave up five hits, walked two and struck out six. Making his first start in the majors after a six-week absence due to a hamstring strain, Taillon allowed four runs and threw 75 pitches in 4 1/3 innings. He has a 5.38 ERA. Taillon has 65 strikeouts in 72 innings and has won two of 14 starts. He’s lined up to face the Pirates on the road this weekend.
